In the past, India captured the title of the tournament in 2002 that was shared with Sri Lanka, and in 2013 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni emerged as champions in a finale against England.
In the current edition, India and New Zealand, who were part of Group A, previously clashed in the league stage, setting the stage for their upcoming encounter in the final.
