Champions Trophy 2025: The emergency meeting of ICC's executive board failed to conclude the highly-anticipated schedule of the Champions Trophy and now the meeting will be held on Saturday as PCB has once again dismissed the idea of holding the event in a 'hybrid' model. It was a short meeting, where PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi reiterated that Pakistan won't accept the 'hybrid' model even though India has refused to go to Pakistan due to security reasons.

"The Board did meet briefly today. All parties continue to work towards a positive resolution for the Champions Trophy 2025 and it is expected that the Board will reconvene on Saturday and continue to meet over the next few days," a senior member of ICC was quoted as saying to PTI.

Naqvi personally attended the meeting since he was in Dubai to promote Pakistan's position on this issue. Jay Shah, who is currently the secretary of BCCI attended the meeting online. He would be taking over the reins of ICC on December 1, Sunday.

The Ministry of External Affairs also re-emphasized BCCI's stance that the Men in Blue won't be going to Pakistan owing to security reasons. "BCCI has issued a statement. They have said that there are security concerns there and it is therefore unlikely that the team will be going there," the MEA spokesperson said during a routine briefing after India's participation in the upcoming mega event came up.

It should be noted here that holding the mega-event in a hybrid model is the only possible solution and if the tournament is called off, then the PCB will lose its hosting fee of US$ 6 million and the gate revenue as well.

There can also be some reductions from their annual revenue, which is close to US$ 35 million.

If the tournament is not hosted in a hybrid model, then even the ICC would face some difficulties as Star, who are the official broadcasters will then renegotiate the multi-billion dollar deal with it.

The tournament is slated to begin from February 19 to March 9 next year as it's the only window available since all the major cricket-playing nations would then be involved in their bilateral series post this.
