India national cricket team has been imposed a fine of 10 per cent of their match fee for failing to maintain the required over-rate during the second ODI against South Africa in Raipur.

India lost that match as South Africa squared the three-match series at 1-1. India won the Visakhapatnam ODI to clinch the series.

Richie Richardson of the Elite Panel of Match Referees charged the sanction after KL Rahul's side was found to be two overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which links to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allocated time.

Rahul pleaded guilty to the offence and took the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

On-field umpires Rod Tucker and Rohan Pandit, third umpire Sam Nogajski and fourth umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal levelled the order.

India's hopes of an easy victory in the second ODI against South Africa were scrambled despite Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad's outstanding batting performances. Kohli's 102 off 93 balls and Gaikwad's maiden ODI century (105 off 83 balls) pushed India to a challenging 358/5.

However, Aiden Markram's deft 110 off 98 balls led South Africa's onslaught, allowing them to chase down the target with four wickets to spare. Markram's brilliant innings, complemented by solid assistance from Matthew Breetzke (68) and Dewald Brevis (54), secured a thrilling four-wicket victory for the Proteas.
