ICC ODI Rankings: India's batting mogul Virat Kohli continued his push to regain his place as the top ODI batter as he moved up to the second spot in the latest ICC ODI batters rankings released on Wednesday.
The star batter, who has 53 ODI centuries to his name, is closing on his teammate Rohit Sharma for the top spot, trailing behind just eight rating points.
Kohli has not gotten a chance to savour the taste of No.1 position for ODI batters since he was displaced by Pakistan's Babar Azam in April 2021. However, the right-handed batter is now closing in on the top spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings after his impressive performance in the three-match ODI series against South Africa, where he scored 302 runs.
In the same ODI series, Rohit accumulated 146 runs to hold on to his top spot, with Kohli closing to within eight rating points on the back of his unbeaten innings of 65 not out in the series finale in Visakhapatnam.
Opener Shubman Gill, who made his international return from injury in the T20I series against the Proteas, retained his fifth spot despite missing the three-match series, while stand-in skipper KL Rahul rose two places to 12th overall.
