The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday released its latest rankings, revealing significant changes in the top 10 Test batters.

England's Harry Brook and Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan made notable gains, while former Pakistan captain Babar Azam slipped down the rankings. India's Rohit Sharma maintained his position as the top-ranked Indian Test batter, and Ravichandran Ashwin retained his number-one spot in the Test bowlers' rankings.

Babar Azam's struggles with the bat have led to a dramatic fall in the ICC Test rankings, with the Pakistan batsman slipping six places to ninth, now holding 734 points.

Pakistan's Azam had a dismal performance in the first Test of the home season, scoring a duck in the first innings and just 22 runs in the second, contributing to Pakistan's 10-wicket loss.

In contrast, Mohammad Rizwan's outstanding batting display, including an unbeaten 171 and 50, earned him a seven-place jump to 10th in the rankings.

Azam's slump has created an opportunity for Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal to rise in the rankings, even though they haven't played a Test match in months. Interestingly, Virat Kohli didn't play in the England series, but still manages to be ranked higher than Babar, alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Notably, Kohli has surpassed Azam in the rankings without playing a single Test match since January 2024. Kohli now occupies the eighth spot with 737 rating points, narrowly ahead of Babar, who trails by just three points at ninth place.

Mushfiqur Rahim's magnificent 191 in Bangladesh's historic Test victory has propelled him to a career-best ranking, jumping seven places to 17th. His impressive performance has earned him a new peak in the rankings.

Joe Root maintains his top spot in the Test batter rankings, following England's victory in the first Test against Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, Harry Brook's impressive showing in the same match, with scores of 56 and 32, has propelled him up three places to fourth in the rankings. Notably, Brook has now surpassed several high-profile batters, including Babar Azam, Steve Smith, and Rohit Sharma, thanks to his recent outstanding form.
