ICC Test Rankings: India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant received a massive boost in the latest ICC Test Batters Rankings as the star batter reentered the top 10 after his terrific performance in the recently concluded three-match Test series against New Zealand.
Pant, who was in sensational form in the series, raised five places to sixth overall on the back of a pair of half-centuries during the third Test match. Notably, the attacking left-hander is now just one place behind his career-best 5th spot which he first occupied in July 2022.
Meanwhile, senior India batter Virat Kohli took a massive dip in the rankings as he slipped out of the top 20 after his flop show in the New Zealand series. Former captain Kohli has dropped out of the world’s top 20 rankings for the first time since December 2014 – after nearly 10 years.
Kohli, who once became the first Indian to have achieved the No. 1 ranking in all three formats, scored just 93 runs against New Zealand in 6 innings and now holds the 22nd spot in the ICC Test Rankings.
Apart from senior batter Virat Kohli, India captain Rohit Sharma, who also had a subpar series, holds 26th ranked, having slipped 2 spots.
New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell, who previously held the third position in September, rose eight spots to seventh after smashing 82 and 21 in a challenging third and last match of the series.
England right-hander Joe Root holds the strong healthy lead at the top of the table in the ICC Test Rankings with Kane Williamson, Harry Brook (third), Yashasvi Jaiswal (fourth) and Steve Smith (fifth) right behind him.

India's Shubman Gill rosed up four spots to 16th position after making a strong case against New Zealand in the Mumbai Test following a score of 90 in the first innings.
Notably, now only two Indian - Pant and Jaiswal- are in the top 10 of the ICC Test Rankings.
Meanwhile, in the ICC Test Bowlers Rankings, experienced spinner Ravindra Jadeja gained big as the Indian left-armer gaining two places to move to sixth.
