ICC Test Rankings: India's star wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant has surpassed his fellow teammate Virat Kohli and has jumped to the sixth position according to the latest ICC Test batters rankings. Pant, who made a comeback in the longest format recently after being involved in a fatal car accident, showed growth as he scored 20 and 99 runs in the series opener against New Zealand. Due to these efforts, he jumped three positions in the rankings and went past Kohli, who is currently lying in the eighth position.
Besides Pant's growth, England's star batter Joe Root maintained his top position. Root, who has been performing consistently in the longest format, is miles ahead of other batters, although India's Yashasvi Jaiswal jumped to the fourth position. Jaiswal, Pant, and Kohli are the only Indian batters to be in the top 10 thus showing the dominance of the Indian batters with their ever-changing ranks.
England opener Ben Duckett also jumped to three positions and is lying at the 11th position, on the back of his brilliant knock of 114 runs against the Shan Masood-led side and is on the verge of entering the top 10. At the same time, Pakistan's star batter Salman Agha has also been making strides in the rankings. He scored 31 and 63 runs jumped eight positions and finished with his career-best rankings of 14. Salman, who had scored more than 50 runs in the last three Tests that he played, is currently Pakistan's highest-ranked Test batter and has gone past batters like Babar Azam (19th), Mohammad Rizwan (21st), and Saud Shakeel (27th).
The Kiwi batters too made significant improvements. New Zealand's star batter Rachin Ravindra jumped 36 places and finished at the 18th position whereas Devon Conway jumped 12 positions and finished at 36th after defeating the Men in Blue in the series opener. As far as the bowlers are concerned, Matt Henry too improved his rankings as he jumped two spots and attained his career-best rankings of ninth by taking an eight-for in the first Test match against the Rohit Sharma-led side.
The Pakistan bowlers too made significant im[improvements as spinner Noman Ali finished in 17th position after taking 11 wickets in the second Test match against England. Sajid Khan too jumped 22 spots and ended at the 50th position due to his Player of the Match performance in the second Test match against the Ben Stokes-led side.
