India star batter Virat Kohli has made a significant rise in the latest ICC Test Rankings for batters after scoring a half-century in the first Test against South Africa in Centurion. Kohli scored 38 and 76 in the opening Test of the series after opting out of the white-ball tour.
His contribution made him gain four places in the rankings to bring him back to the top 10 after 2022. He currently holds the ninth spot and has the chance to make more improvement in the ongoing second Test at Newlands in Cape Town.

In India's crumbling an innings and 32 runs defeat in Centurion, Kohli stayed confident and made a major contribution in India;s second innings total of 131.
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson continues to lead the batting chart while England batter Joe Root and Australia's Steve Smith are placed in second and third places respectively.
India skipper Rohit Sharma dropped to the 14th spot after managing scores of five and zero while KL Rahul's century helped him move 11 places to 51st in the list.
In the bowlers rankings, Ravichandran Ashwin maintained his position at the top spot, despite recording figures of one for 41 in Centurion. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah secured the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
Jadeja retained his lead in the all-rounders' rankings, with Ashwin following closely in second place, while Shardul Thakur slipped to the 34th position.
South Africa opener Dean Elgar’s knock of 185 has lifted him 19 places to 17th position as he leads the team in the second Test in Cape Town, which will be his last international match as he has announced his retirement after the series.
All-rounder Marco Jansen Marco has advanced in all three lists. Jansen, who scored 84 not out and finished with four wickets in the match, has progressed 13 places to 72nd among batters, is up three places to 22nd among bowlers and jumped from 13th to fifth in the list of all-rounders.
On the team rankings, India continued to dominate at the top spot with 118 points, leading ahead of Australia and England.
