India's preparations for the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan have suffered a major setback after star all-rounder Hardik Pandya was ruled out due to a leg sprain, as per the reports of TOI.
The injury comes at a crucial stage for Men in Blue as the management looks to reshuffle their combination ahead of a packed international calendar. Hardik, one of India's most influential all-rounders, was expected to play a key role with both bat and ball in the three-match series.
The Mumbai Indians skipper was training hard at the BCCI Centre of Excellence to play a part in Shubman Gill’s squad. However, the latest medical update has forced the selectors to rethink their plans as Pandya will be out for more than two weeks. Till yesterday there were reports of him playing for India in the upcoming series
Although Pandya’s season with Mumbai Indians was not up to the mark, his addition to the India team would have boosted their performance.
As per BCCI reports, "There has been a very late setback. He sustained a low-grade, mild leg sprain, causing some tenderness. It’s nothing long-term, but medical staff advised him to avoid any strain or weight-bearing for the next few days. Hardik will continue to stay in Bengaluru, consulting with CoE physios and trainers during his recovery phase."
Pandya's absence leaves a significant void in India's middle order and bowling attack. Over the years, the all-rounder has established himself as a vital player in the team's setup, often providing balance by contributing in multiple departments.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to announce an official replacement for the series. With the Afghanistan ODIs around the corner, the selection committee is expected to evaluate several options capable of filling the all-rounder's shoes.

The three-match ODI series between India and Afghanistan is scheduled to begin later this week, with fans hoping Pandya's injury does not keep him out of action for an extended period.
