IND vs AUS Highlights, 1st ODI: India Beat Australia By 5 Wickets

"I was dreaming of this type of innings when I started playing this format. Trying to bat deep and finishing the game, unfortunately couldn’t do it today but very happy with the result. I’d been wondering what had been happening for me in this format, the teams and bowlers were the same. I went back and reflected and realized I was probably rushing things a bit so I decided to play slower and take it deep. I think it’s the first time I haven’t played a sweep. This has come from the Chandu Pandit school of arts (on his straight drives). Really enjoyed watching the openers bat. Want to try and bat the same way, bat deep, try and win games for India."

Skipper KL Rahul finished the game in style. He reached his half-century with a boundary and won the game for his team with a boundary as well. India have won the first ODI by five wickets as they take 1-0 lead in the three-match series. 

Wicket! Can you believe it? Just after reaching his fifty, Suryakumar departs to give Australia their fifth wicket. Didn't fully commit to the shot and wanted to hit it squarer, but ended up finding Mitchell Marsh in the deep.

Fifty! Suryakumar along with the team management will be very satisfied with that innings. The star batter takes a sigh of relief as he reaches half-century.

The partnership has raced away to 78. Surely these two will take India to the victory now as they come closer to their respective fifties.

Rahul and Suryakumar are taking no risks at the moment as they take India close to victory. Another good over for them as nine runs came off it. India are just 54 runs away from the victory.

Wicket! Kishan got a feather there. Cummins gets his first wicket of the match as India go four down. Inglis made no mistake behind the wickets.

The partnership between Kishan and Rahul has raced away to 27 in no time. Kishan is enjoying at the moment as he is playing his attacking shots in between. India will be aim for these two to take them to victory with no more casualties.

Wicket! Gone. It's Zampa again. Gill tried to cut it away on the backfoot but ended up exposing his stumps to the bowler. He completely missed out on the ball and got knocked off. India lose third wicket as Gill departs for 74.

Wicket! Oh no! There was never a run there. Shreyas was long way out of his crease and it was just a formality for Inglis to get the bails off on time. Horrible way to get dismissed in the match you could've added the finishing touches. India lose second wicket.

Wicket! Zampa gets the breakthrough as he removes Ruturaj who was well set for hundred here. Gaikwad misses the sweep shot and is struck on the back thigh right in front of the middle, an easy decision for umpire KN Anantha Padmanabhan.

Fifty! Ruturaj has grabbed the opportunity with both his hands as he looks to be enjoying out there. He reaches his maiden ODI half-century. India are in a dominating position at the moment with these two class players at the crease.

Fifty! This man just loves scoring runs. Australia have failed so far in stopping Shubman from bossing the proceedings in the middle as he reaches yet another half-century. He will be aiming for a big one here at his home ground. 

Australia are in desperate need of a wicket or two here wit the Indian openers looking comfortable at the crease. A good one for the Aussies as just two runs came off that Green's over.

This has been a great start for the Men in Blu in their run chase. Gill looks to be hitting everything with the middle of his bat at the moment. He looks in sublime touch and will be the key for his team in the match. Good over though from the Aussie skipper, just two runs came off it.

Good start for India as Ruturaj smashed the first boundary of the team's run chase. Six runs came off Cummins' first over.

There wasn’t much out of the wicket so the only option was to bowl good lengths and mix-up your variations. Australia reach 276/10 after the end of 50 overs. Mohammed Shami remained the pick of the bowlers with a five wicket haul.

Two huge wickets fall as Australia lose both set batters in quick intervals. Josh Inglis and Marcus Stoinis are back in the hut. Australian captain Pat Cummins is in the middle. 

With four overs left, can Australia reach 280 from here. Josh Inglis looks all set to achieve the total. On the other hand, Inglis has good support in Marcus Stoinis.

With just 8 overs left, Marcus Stoinis and Josh Inglis have got a huge responsibility to apply finishing touches to the innings. Australia are looking good to take the total to 275 and above.  

The play resumes after a short interruption by rain. 

The players have walked off the field as it has started drizzling here in PCA stadium in Mohali. 

Wicket! There's the first wicket for Ashwin. Marnus attempted the reverse sweep but missed it with ball hitting the stumps after KL Rahul dropped it behind the wickets. Australia lose the fourth wicket. The third umpire had a long look there and decided to give that out. 

A good one from Ashwin. These two batters are doing well to settle so that they can provide the finishing touches with 20 overs to go. Three runs came off that over.

Wicket! Knocks him over. You don't need any assistance from the wicket if you can do this. Smith missed out on that completely as Shami gets his second wicket of the match.

Wicket! Jadeja strikes. Big wicket for India as David Warner departs for 52. Warner couldn't get under the slog sweep properly, miscues it towards long-on and Gill made no mistake for his second catch of the match.

Fifty! So Warner gets the reward for his stunning show so far as he reaches his 29th ODI fifty. He's back on track this guy and can trouble the bowlers a lot if he gets going. India are in desperate need of a wicket here. Four runs came off that Ashwin's over.

Warner is looking dangerous at the moment here and he is well set for a big one. He is finding boundaries in almost every over. India need to get rid of him as quickly as possible. Five runs came off that over.

Dropped! Warner looks comfortable at the moment. Smashed two boundaries and got a life in the last ball of the over. Iyer should have caught that. Let's see how costly will that be. Nine runs came off that over.

Indian bowlers are trying to extract everything from the pitch. However, this is very little to offer for the fast bowlers. Smith, Warner can score a lot from this pitch if they survive the early conditions.

India won the toss and elected to bowl first. 

The series will be played on flat pitches in the subcontinent, which could test Australia's bowling attack.

Despite a recent series loss to South Africa and injury concerns with skipper Pat Cummins, Australia remains a strong contender. They won the last ODI series in India in March and have a strong track record in subcontinent conditions.

India's fast bowlers, including Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, will be closely managed due to the tight schedule of three 50-over games in five days, which includes travel.

With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli resting for the first two games, the team's opening pair is likely to be Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill, while Shreyas Iyer will take Kohli's place. Ruturaj Gaikwad is in the squad as a cover but may be released after the second game to join the T20 team for the Asian Games.

Axar Patel's quadriceps tear injury opens the door for Ravichandran Ashwin to potentially play in his third and likely last 50-over World Cup. Ashwin and Washington Sundar are vying for this opportunity. Ashwin's performance in the upcoming games will be crucial, but it's possible that the team management may still opt for Axar if he recovers on time.

Suryakumar Yadav has excelled in T20Is but has a less impressive record in ODIs. He will need to clarify his role in the ODI format and improve his average of less than 25 in 27 ODIs to secure his place in the team.

Shreyas Iyer's match fitness is a matter of concern due to his recent stress fracture surgery and a stiff back issue. While the chairman of selectors has cleared him to play, his ability to withstand 100 overs of cricket over the three games will be closely observed. India will rely on Iyer's prowess against spin bowling in the middle overs during the World Cup.
