In what turned to be an exciting matchup, India beat Australia by six wickets in their first World Cup match. The encounter showcased a stark contrast between two pairs of Indian batsmen, making it an unforgettable opener.

Australia while batting first set a target of 199, largely due to Ravindra Jadeja's exceptional spin masterclass. However, the Aussies weren't willing to give up their opening match winning streak in this quadrennial tournament, which had remained unbroken since 1992.

India's innings started with a stumble as they lost their openers, Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma, early in the game. Kishan departed without scoring a run, caught in the slip cordon while attempting a cover drive. Rohit Sharma was dismissed LBW by Josh Hazlewood, a close call that went against him. His misjudgment of the line left him trapped in front of the wicket.

With the scoreboard reading a precarious 3 runs for the loss of 2 wickets, it seemed like a daunting task for the Indian team. However, from the depths of this early setback emerged two stalwarts, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. Both seasoned players showed their class and experience in the cricketing world.

Kohli and Rahul formed a match-winning partnership amassing an impressive 165 runs together. Virat Kohli led the charge with his superb innings of 85, although he had a stroke of luck when he was dropped on just 12. This led Kohli to adopt a more cautious approach.

KL Rahul matched Kohli's skill with some classic drives and cuts but fell just short of a century, ending his innings with 91 runs. With only 5 runs needed for victory, a boundary and a six would have taken him to his eighth ODI century. However, a lofted drive off Pat Cummins cleared the boundary, securing the win for India and leaving Rahul dismayed on 97 not out.

As the Indian team celebrated the impressive victory, thanks to the contribution by Kohli-Rahul duo, Rohit and Kishan will be reflecting on their approach for the upcoming games. It's a long tournament ahead, and both batters will be keen to make amends.
