Jamie Smith smashed the winning six off Jadeja as England beat India by 5 wickets in the first Test in Headingley to go 1-0 up in the five-match Test series.  

England are heading towards a famous win here in Leeds as Root and Smith look solid in the middle. They now need less than 50 to go over the line. Four runs came off that over from Shardul.

England are cruising towards a 100-run stand for the first wicket. Indian bowlers have been inconsistent with their line and lengths, as the odd ball is getting punished by the batters. 

Shardul Thakur is brought into the attack. He was a bit expensive in his spell in the first innings as he will rectify this in the second one. India will have to cut down on the boundaries heavily. We have enough time on our hands and if there is no rain, it will hurt India.

An early scare for Zak Crawley. He tried to play it through leg-side as he got hit on his pads. India went upstairs but Hawk-eye suggested that the ball was missing the stumps. 

Nothing has gone India's way so far early on the final day, as there's no swing on offer at all. Crawley and Duckett haven't faced any struggle at the moment, and they are going cautiously. 5 runs came off that over.

The players are wearing black armbands and observing a minute of silence in memory of former Indian spinner Dilip Doshi, who sadly passed away yesterday.

 "Overcast conditions will help the quicks. There isn’t much help for them on this surface because the grass has been shaved off and it looks like a dry, almost Indian surface. The footmarks created by the pacers will aid the spinners. Crucially, the ball will come onto the bat nicely and England will go for their shots. India will need to hold on to their catches. Otherwise, they might be in for a disappointment" says Sunil Gavaskar.

To script their name in the history books, England will have to gun down a massive target of 371-run in 90 overs. This big target has never been chased down in the history of a 5-day Test match at the Headingley. 

Rain is set to play a massive role, as the hosts and visitors' equal fight has set them for a thriller on the final day. The overall forecasts at Leeds look quite gloomy with an 84 per cent chance of rainfall on Tuesday.

Rahul and Karun will look to capitalise in the final session of the day.

Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul are battling tough conditions for sure. Their pair is crucial to India getting to 300 and above. England bowlers have not done much wrong in these conditions. They have been economical without bowling on the negative lines.

The action has started in the second session of the fourth day, and Rahul and Pant are out there in the middle. Josh Tongue bowled a maiden over to start.

Rishabh Pant is playing with fire at the moment. He is taking his chances against the bowler who is bowling incredibly well, Brydon Carse. He should calm himself down. One can safely assume that he has been incredibly lucky.

KL Rahul has brought up his half-century in style, off 87 balls! With Shubman Gill out early, Rahul is anchoring India's innings with his calm after missing out in the first innings with a gritty 42.

WHAT A SHOT! Rishabh Pant comes down the track and smashes the ball over the slips for a boundary! Pure class from Pant! Meanwhile, India's lead crosses 100.

Gill's second batting endeavour as skipper isn't quite as successful as his first! A wicket early in the day for hosts, exactly what they were looking for. Brydon Carse bowls Shubman Gill just five minutes into Day 4!

Shubman Gill and KL Rahul have a massive challenge on their hands and the duo will hope to take India past the 300-run lead. Shoaib Bashir resumed proceedings for England by finishing the final ball of his over left from Day 3. 

The weather at Headingley is looking up! The cloud cover has cleared out, and the sun is beginning to break through. Earlier concerns about a possible shower have reduced, and conditions are now peeking more favourable for play.

Visuals from Headingley show a windy, chilly morning with the sun attempting to peek through the overcast skies and it is expected that the temperatures are likely to dip as low as 13 degrees Celsius. 

On Day 4, India will resume their second innings from 90/2 with captain Shubman Gill, who scored a career-best 147 in the first innings, unbeaten on 6 while opener KL Rahul is not out on 47. India are leading by 96 runs.

The hosts will draw motivation from having successfully neutralized their opponent's early advantage while the visitors will look to capitalize on this momentum with Rahul and Gill's partnership.
