India vs England 2nd Test: Shubman Gill, India's young batter is facing so much criticism amid his rough patch with the bat which was on display in the first innings of the second Test against England as well.

India and England are in action in the second Test of the five-match series at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam where Gill scored just 34 runs in the first innings.

While Gill has scored just 57 runs in the first three innings against England in the ongoing series, former England captain Kevin Pietersen drew a comparison between Gill's early struggles as a Test player to those of the former South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis.

Pietersen believes that the 24-year-old Gill has the potential to bounce back from his initial struggles and go on to replicate Kallis' impressive Test record.

"Kallis averaged 22 in his first 10 Tests and turned out to be arguably the greatest player to play the game. Give @ShubmanGill time to find it, please. He’s a serious player!" Pietersen wrote on X.

Gill was the second top run-getter for India in the first innings with 34 runs to his name in 46 balls.

He looked good in the middle with his five boundaries before falling prey to James Anderson in the 29th over, edging one to the wicketkeeper Ben Foakes.

His recent performances in the longest format have been a concern for the Rohit sJrama-led side as he has scored just 207 runs in the last 7 Tests, resulting in a disappointing average of 18.81.

India managed to put up a massive total of 396 in their first innings on the back of a remarkable double century from young batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal who scored 209 runs in 290 balls with the help of 19 fours and seven sixes.

It is to be noted Gill was given a new position of no.3 in Test format as he has a massive responsibility to fill in the shoes of veteran batter Cheteshwar Pujara.
