IND vs ENG 5th Test: Ever since Shubman Gill had become India's new Test skipper ahead of the ongoing Test series, there were a lot of people who doubted both his captaincy and batting skills. Gill became the side's new No.4 batter and thus tried to fill in the big void left by Virat Kohli, and his scoring lots of runs was also important, along with his captaincy.
By scoring 743 runs after playing in four Test matches, which also includes his first innings total of the fifth Test match, he has proved his naysayers wrong. He has performed brilliantly in the ongoing series as a batter, as every time he entered the field, he broke one or two records.
He had scored 21 runs off 34 balls during the first innings of the fifth Test, and just when he was looking at his absolute best, he got out due to a runout. Despite his short stay at the crease, he broke Sunil Gavaskar's record of becoming the highest run-getter during a Test series as an Indian skipper.
And if he does bat again during the second innings, then he is on the verge of breaking three more records. He might break two Don Bradman and one Sunil Gavaskar's record, which at one point looked like they could never be broken, but Gill is inching close to doing so.
If Gill does score 68 runs during the second innings, then he would become the highest run-getter in the longest format as a skipper. Don Bradman currently holds this record as he has scored 810 runs, and Gill is in third position on this list.
Most runs in a Test series by a captain
PLAYER | TEAM | MATCHES | RUNS | OPPOSITION | YEAR | VENUE |
Don Bradman | Australia | 5 | 810 | England | 1936-37 | Australia |
Graham Gooch | England | 3 | 752 | India | 1990 | England |

David Gower | England | 6 | 732 | Australia | 1985 | England |
Garry Sobers | West Indies | 5 | 722 | England | 1966 | England |
If Gill does score 28 runs during the second innings, then he will script history by breaking Gavaskar's record of scoring 774 runs and become the highest run-scorer in a Test series for the country. This is the first time in 54 years that this record will be broken.

Bradman currently holds this record as he scored 974 runs during the 1930 Ashes Test series, and Gill is in the 21st position in this list.
