IND vs ENG: Jasprit Bumrah, who is currently the world's no.1 Test bowler, featured during the series opener at Leeds in June this year, where he had taken five wickets and had conceded 84 runs during the first innings, but his efforts went in vain as the visitors lost the match by five wickets. The star pacer then gave the second Test at Edgbaston a miss to manage his workload, and the Men in Blue won that match by a huge margin of 336 runs.
Bumrah was then included in the playing XI of the third Test match held at Lord's last week, where he took a five-for yet again during the first innings (5/74 runs in 27 overs) and then took two wickets and conceded 38 runs during the second innings, but once again failed to take the team across the line.
When the Shubman Gill-led side lost the third Test match by 22 runs, a few Indian fans slammed Bumrah on social media. According to them, his position in the playing XI played a huge role in India losing the third Test match.

But is that the case?
The Men in Blue have lost seven of their last 10 Test matches when Bumrah has featured, but his getting dropped hasn't helped them much.
They have won just five of the last 10 Test matches, which Bumrah missed in order to manage his workload or due to injuries. And out of these five victories, they have won two matches against Australia at their backyard and one against Bangladesh way back in 2022, and one against the West Indies in 2023.
During the last 10 Test matches that Bumrah has played for the country, he has taken 53 wickets in 19 innings and has scored 59 runs. And of these, five times he has taken a five-for and registered his career-best figures of 6/76 in the 28 overs that he bowled against Australia during the first innings in the Brisbane Test last year, and that match ended in a tie.
