India vs England Tests: Jasprit Bumrah was included in India's playing XI for the first Test against England in Leeds on Friday. This is Bumrah's third tour of England.
All eyes will be on Bumrah again to deliver when it comes to leading India's pace attack, but fitness issues might reduce his impact as he will be playing just three matches in the series. After a memorable Australia tour, Bumrah will be aiming to put in a similar performance in England as well.
The star pacer has been India's biggest match-winner across formats for a while now. However, he will face a huge challenge in English conditions with a relatively inexperienced fast-bowling unit.
As India gear up for a massive challenge in the five-match series, let's take a look at Bumrah's bowling record in England:
Jasprit Bumrah's Test record in England
Matches: 9
Wickets: 37
Average: 26.27
BBI: 5/64
BBM: 9/110
Jasprit Bumrah's overall Test record
Matches: 45
Wickets: 205
Average: 19.40
BBI: 6/27
BBM: 9/86
Notably, Bumrah was India's best performer in Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and ended the five-match series with 32 wickets to his name at an average of 13.06.
Adding to India's concerns, Bumrah picked up a back issue during the final Test in Sydney and remained on the sidelines for a few months before making his comeback in the IPL 2025. Keeping his workload in mind, the BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar had confirmed that Bumrah will be playing just three Tests in England.
"Plan on the go. 3 test matches are what I am looking at. First is definitely on. The rest, we will see what the plan is. Yes, that is going to happen. Rest, we see how things are. What is the workload? What is the scenario? 3 Test matches are what I can manage at this moment. I don't want to be in a desperate situation. That is one part of it, as a captain, I cannot be dictating, I will only play 3 matches. That does not send a good message to the team. So, of all these things keeping n mind. Trying to give my best as a player. Hopefully, in the games I play, I give my best," said Bumrah.
