India Tour Of England: The India men's senior selection committee under the chairman Ajit Agarkar have a massive task cut out for them as India's upcoming tour of England gets close. There have been plenty of deliberation around picking a squad for the five-match test series. The biggest concern will be around the leadership as Rohit Sharma - the test captain has not been at his best in terms of batting form.

As per a report in TOI, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah were the captain and vice-captain, respectively, during the tour of Australia in December-January but the combination is 'highly unlikely' to continue in England.

Rohit's recent record in Australia was 'dismal' to say the least. As far as Bumrah is concerned, it is highly unlikely that the injury-prone talisman is unlikely to play all the tests in the series.

BCCI Looks To Back Shubman Gill instead of Rohit

The report in TOI is keen on including Shubman Gill as the new leader for the series starting on June 20. There have been several reports surrounding Rohit's keenness to lead the side but nothing has been conveyed so far with confidence by the board.

The report also stated that BCCI has refused to entertain a 'senior' player who expressed to lead the side again in Tests.

"A new WTC cycle is starting. Future and continuity has to be kept in mind as far as the team is concerned. Even coach Gautam Gambhir would want a set of players he is likely to work with for an extended period. There can't be any stop-gap solutions for such an important series. The last two Test series haven't been ideal for the team and the England series is very crucial," a source was quoted as saying by TOI.

Gill - A bright prospect but still work in progress in tests

The 25-year-old Gill has delievered incredibly well in ODIs but has a lot to prove at number 3 spot in tests. Replacing someone like Cheteshwar Pujara in the line-up, Gill has not been able to give his best with just 1177 runs at home along with 649 runs have come on foreign soil. Notably, that adds up to an average of 35.05 in 59 innings of 32 test matches.
