Mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has been added to India's squad for the upcoming 3-match ODI series against England after his outstanding performance in the five T20Is.
"The Men’s Selection Committee has added Varun Chakaravarthy to India’s squad for the upcoming 3-match ODI series against England," theBoard of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) stated in a statement.
Earlier, Chakaravarthy was seen training and bowling in the nets on Tuesday.
Chakaravarthy picked 14 wickets, which included a five-wicket haul in Rajkot in the recently concluded 5-match T20I series against England.
He was also the player of the series for his stellar bowling performance. Varun has joined the ODI squad in Nagpur.
Meanwhile, the addition of Chakaravarthy to the Indian team has boosted their spin-bowling department, providing them with a total of five options for the upcoming ODIs against England. With the deadline for submitting squads for the Champions Trophy looming on February 12, it's likely that the Indian selectors will finalize a contingent of four spinners from this pool.
India have got three finger spinners -- two left-armers (Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel) and one right-arm off-spinner in Washington Sundar. Kuldeep Yadav, who is returning to the Indian team after undergoing a sports hernia surgery in October 2024, is the lone wrist spinner in the squad.

Following this series, the team will travel to Dubai for the Champions Trophy. Notably, India has the flexibility to make changes to their Champions Trophy squad until February 11 without requiring ICC approval.
