India vs England Tests: India and England are set to face off in a five-match Test series which begins on June 20 in Leeds. Ben Stokes will be leading the England team whereas the visitors will be led by new skipper Shubman Gill.

India will be without some of their big names like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin. All three of them have already retired from Test cricket as India gear up for action in their toughest challenge in the ongoing transition phase. The Test series in England will mark the starting of India's campaign in the third cycle of the World Test Championship. India made it to the finals of first two editions of WTC but suffered defeats against the New Zealand and Australia respectively.

India have an unfinished business in hands to complete as they couldn't win the Test series in England during the previous tour despite coming so close. India's last Test series win in England came way back in 2007. The visitors have the mixure of both experienced campaigners as well as youngsters on board with Arshdeep Singh and Sai Sudharsan getting their maiden Test call-ups.

India's last Test outing in England

India and England locked horns in the first Test which was played at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham in July 2021. Jasprit Bumrah put up a magnificent performance and took nine wickets in the match including a five-for in the second innings.

KL Rahul and Rohit looked in promising touch at the top of the order. In the end, rain got the better of the match which eventually ended in a draw but India were so close of a famous win.

However, the visitors maintained the momentum and registered a memorable victory in at the Lord's in London. KL Rahul smashed a magnificent century in the first innings. On the other hand, it was Mohammed Siraj who stepped up with the ball and took eight wickets as India won by 151 runs to go 1-0 up.

Rising up to the expectations of their fans, the hosts England bounced back brilliantly and won the third Test match by an innings and 76 runs at Headingley to level the series 1-1. Joe Root smashed an outstanding century after India were bowled out for just 78 runs in the first innings. Ollie Robinson took five wickets in the second innings to win it for England.

The atmosphere of London once again suited the Indians as they came up with brave effort to win the Oval Test by 157 runs. It was Rohit this time who got the impactful century whereas a heroic effort from the bowlers put the final nail in the coffin and bowled England out for 210 runs. Heading into the decider, India were the favourites as England looked down and out after losing two thrilling contests.

Controversy and 5th rescheduled Test

In an unfortunate turn of events, the fifth and final Test was abandoned without a ball being bowled in Manchester as a few of individuals got tested positive for the COVID-19 and they were unable to field a team.

Interestingly, the final Test was rescheduled and was played in July 2022 in Birmingham. India had a big change in the setup as Jasprit Bumrah was captaining the side after Virat Kohli stepped down from the role. They were also with Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.

England were also being led by Ben Stokes and brought their best game forward. They pulled off a magnificent run chase on the back of centuries from Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root and ended up winning the match by 7 wickets. The series eventually ended in a 2-2 draw.
