Ind vs Ire, T20 World Cup 2024: India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah revealed that it was important for bowlers to be ‘proactive’ and to stay consistent while bowling on drop-in pitches in New York. On Wednesday, Bumrah won the Player of the Match award as he helped the team defeat Ireland by eight wickets.
Bumrah registered figures of 3-1-6-2. He dismissed batters like Harry Tector and Joshua Little and helped the team skittle Ireland out for 96 runs in 16 overs. He revealed that the bowlers need to analyze the conditions before the match begins.
You have to be prepared
"When you come here and the ball is seaming around with some bounce and pace, I would never complain. You have to be proactive; you can't pre-empt things,” Bumrah told broadcasters in the post-match presentation ceremony.
“You realize how the wicket is and then go back to what works for you. Once the seam goes down the pitch does settle down. You must be prepared to bowl in all conditions, so very happy today,” he added.
Besides Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh also starred with the ball as he dismissed both the Irish openers, Andrew Balbirnie and Paul Stirling, and registered figures of 4-0-35-2. Mohammed Siraj and Axar Patel took one wicket each.
The Rohit Sharma-led side chased down the meager target of 97 runs with 46 balls remaining. Skipper Rohit Sharma smashed a match-winning knock of 52 runs off 37 balls, in which he hit four fours and three sixes.
India did suffer an early blow after Virat Kohli’s dismissal but then Rishabh Pant and Rohit stitched a match-winning partnership of 69 runs for the second wicket. Pant scored a gritty knock of 36 runs off 26 balls, in which he had smashed three fours and two sixes.
India will lock horns with their arch-nemesis Pakistan in their next match on Sunday, June 9.
