IND vs NZ 3rd ODI: Virat Kohli's Century Goes In Vain As New Zealand Register First-ever ODI Series Win In India

India vs New Zealand 3rd ODI Updates: New Zealand defeated India by 41 runs in the third and final ODI match at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Sunday, January 18. New Zealand created history as they registered their first-ever ODI series win on Indian soil.

Virat Kohli's remarkable effort went in vain as India were bowled out for 296 runs in 46 overs, with Kuldeep Yadav getting run out as the final wicket. A couple of wickets fell during Kristian Clarke's over, including Virat's dismissal as the senior batter couldn't take his side home, running out of partners in the challenging run chase. Virat smashed a memorable century, the 54th of his stellar ODI career. He was dismissed for 124 in 108 balls, hitting 10 fours and three sixes.

India won the series opener in Vadodara, but the Blackcaps bounced back with impressive performances in Rajkot and Indore. India have now lost two out of their last three bilateral ODI series. After being put into bat first, New Zealand posted a mammoth total of 337/8 in their 50 overs on the back of centuries from Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips. The duo made an incredible recovery while the visitors struggled at 58/3, having stitched a 219-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Phillips was dismissed by Arshdeep Singh, having played a memorable knock of 106 runs in 88 balls on the back of nine fours and three sixes.

On the other hand, Mitchell continued his magnificent form with the bat in the format against India as he smashed his ninth ODI century, fourth against the Men in Blue. He produced an outstanding knock of 137 runs with the help of 15 fours and three sixes. For India, Arshdeep and Harshit Rana picked up three wickets each.

Chasing the target, India also lost a few early wickets and were reduced to 71/4 in the 13th over. Virat looked in excellent touch in the middle and kept the hosts alive in the run chase with an 88-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Nitish hit his fifty, but was dismissed by Kristian Clarke for 53 runs at a crucial juncture. While India looked out of the contest, Virat once again bounced back and added crucial runs with Harshit for the seventh wicket.

Harshit smashed four boundaries and as many sixes for his maiden ODI fifty, but his dismissal in the 44th over put pressure back on Kohli.
