India vs New Zealand 3rd Test: India had a horrible last few minutes on the first day of the third day against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday.

In a disappointing turn of events for India, star batter Virat Kohli was run out in the final over of the day, making it a tough finish for them in the end.

The former India head coach Ravi Shastri expressed disappointment over Kohli’s continued rough patch as he departed for 4.

Expressing his frustration at Kohli's dismissal, Shastri described it as a needless move, unable to understand Kohli’s decision-making at that moment. “What a waste of a wicket. Don’t know what was going through his mind,” Shastri remarked.

Soon after the nightwatchman Mohammed Siraj was dismissed on the very first delivery, Kohli joined Shubman Gill in the middle.

He hit the ball directly towards Matt Henry and set off for a single. However, the ball was far too close for a safe run, and Henry made no mistake with a pick-up and throw as he unleashed a remarkable direct hit, leaving Kohli well short of his crease.

India ended the day on 86/4 in 19 overs with Gill (31) and Rishabh Pant at the crease. The hosts are still 149 runs behind in their first innings.

Earlier in the day, New Zealand were bowled out for 235 runs in their first innings after opting to bay first. Daryl Mithell top-scored for the visitors with an 82-run knock while Will Young scored 71 runs.

For India, Ravindra Jadeja picked up his 14th five-wicket haul whereas Washington Sundar kept his brilliant form going with the figures of 4/81.
