IND vs NZ, 1st Test: Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and veteran all-rounder R Ashwin are on the verge of achieving big milestones in the series opener against New Zealand on Wednesday. After clean sweeping the recently concluded two-match Test series against Bangladesh, the Men in Blue will aim to repeat their heroics against the Kiwis, who were recently thrashed by Sri Lanka 2-0 in this format.
The Rohit Sharma-led side created history by winning the second Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur and now they are on the verge of creating more milestones in the first Test against New Zealand. Skipper Rohit Sharma, who started his last innings during the second Test brilliantly by smashing two sixes, is now just four sixes short from becoming the country's highest six hitter in Tests.
He had smashed 87 sixes after playing in 61 Test matches till now and is just three sixes away from surpassing Virender Sehwag's record of smashing 90 sixes and it is the highest by an Indian batter. Considering his current form, it won't take him long to achieve this milestone, and is on the verge of doing it in the series opener if the weather allows.

Star batter Virat Kohli is also on the verge of achieving major milestones as he is just 53 runs shy of scoring 9000 runs in the longest format. He has scored 8947 runs after playing in 115 Test matches at an average of 48.89, which also includes 29 centuries and 30 half-centuries. He will also become the fourth Indian cricketer to have achieved this milestone and the 18th overall.
If he achieved this feat during the first innings of the series opener then he would become the 12th fastest cricketer to do so.
Ravichandran Ashwin is four away from becoming seventh highest wicket-taker
Besides Kohli, star off-spinner R Ashwin is just four wickets shy from breaking Nathan Lyon's record of taking 530 wickets and also becoming the joint seventh-highest wicket-getter in the longest format.
He has taken 527 wickets after playing in 102 Test matches at a staggering average of 23.65, which includes 37 five-fors under his kitty. Since all three players are on the verge of achieving big milestones, fans are looking forward to watching them achieve them and script history once again by winning the match.
