Suryakumar Yadav's Resurgent Form Propels Him To Elite 9,000 T20 Run Club, Joins Virat Kohli And Shikhar Dhawan

IND vs NZ T20I: India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav's resurgence to form was palpable as he became the third-fastest Indian to notch 9,000 T20 runs during the first T20I of the five-match series against New Zealand at Nagpur's VCA Stadium on Wednesday.

Suryakumar, who had struggled through a lean patch, has gone 22 innings without a half-century, with his last fifty coming against Bangladesh in Hyderabad in October 2024.

Coming to bat at No. 4, the India captain looked well in rhythm and confident, smashing 32 off 22 balls with the help of four boundaries and a six before his quick-fire innings was cut short by Mitchell Santner.

Despite being dismissed early, he crossed the 9,000-run mark in T20S, making him the fourth Indian overall to do so.

Suryakumar reached the milestone in 321 innings, trailing only Virat Kohli, who achieved the feat in 271 and Shikhar Dhawan (308). Pakistan batter and former captain Babar Azam is at the top of the table in the fastest overall, reaching the mark in 245 innings.

He also became the fourth Indian to cross the landmark record in T20 cricket, trailing behind legends Rohit Sharma, Kohli and Dhawan.

He engraved his name in the list of star batters, including veteran batters Virat Kohli (13,543), Rohit Sharma (12,248), and Shikhar Dhawan (9,797), on this elite list.

Currently, Suryakumar is India's third-highest run-scorer in T20Is, trailing behind Rohit (4,231) and Kohli (4,188).
