Mitchell's remarkable innings of 130 runs off 127 balls, along with Rachin Ravindra's contribution of 75 runs off 87 balls, salvaged New Zealand's innings after a shaky start. The pair combined for a crucial partnership of 159 runs off 152 balls for the third wicket.

India's Mohammed Shami was the standout performer with the ball, securing a five-wicket haul, while other pacers like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj also played vital roles. India, however, had an uncharacteristically poor day in the field, dropping three catches. Shami eventually ended their partnership by dismissing Ravindra, but Mitchell continued his assault on the Indian bowlers.

Although Mitchell was dropped by Jasprit Bumrah, he pressed on with his aggressive batting. New Zealand reached the 200-run mark in just 36.1 overs.

India fought back strongly in the last six overs, picking up six wickets for only 30 runs. Shami secured his five-wicket haul by dismissing Mitchell Santner and Matt Henry in consecutive deliveries.
