Pakistan's dream of securing a first-ever win against India in the ODI World Cup was shattered by Rohit Sharma and company as they outclassed Men in Green at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday to register their eighth consecutive win over neighbouring country.

Former India captain and legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar took a jibe at Pakistan for their dismal performance against India in the marquee tournament saying that they did not learn from their past defeats and repeated the same mistakes against Men in Blue.

Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja triggered Pakistan's batting collapse despite a formidable batting performance by Babar Azam (50) and Mohammad Rizwan (49) after being invited to bat first. From 155/3 in 29.4 overs to 191/10 in 42.5, Pakistan suffered a drastic batting collapse on a batting-friendly track.

"Rizwan is the kind of player who can take the game away from the opposition. He is a very cheeky player. He knows how to play and adjust his game according to the needs of the side. So his wicket was very crucial or else Pakistan would have ended with 250-260. So that was a huge blow. Next over Bumrah gets another wicket, with another cutter," Gavaskar told Star Sports.

Gavaskar further slammed Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi for not using variation in his bowling with the new ball against Rohit Sharma. The veteran cricketer cited Bumrah's example to explain how to make use of the new ball better.

"Clearly Pakistan did not learn anything because it was only towards the end when Shaheen bowled that cutter that got Rohit out. We would have thought that they would bowl the cutter even with the new ball. It is not written anywhere that the new ball has to be bowled at a certain pace. You can change it, but nothing of those sorts was seen from the Pakistan bowlers," he said.

With three wins in as many matches, India claimed the top spot in the standings and will next take on Bangladesh in Pune on Thursday, October 19.
