IND vs SA 1st ODI: India's star pacer Harshit Rana has been punished by the ICC for breaking Level 1 of the ICC's Code of Conduct in the series opener in Ranchi last week. Rana had breached Article 2.5 of ICC's Code of Conduct, which is about its player and their support personnel, and that means, “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match."

At the same point, Rana has got one demerit point to his disciplinary record, as it was his first offence in the last 24 months.

The incident happened in the 22nd over of the second innings, when Rana took Dewald Brevis' wicket and was seen sending him an aggressive send-off, which might have provoked Brevis.

Rana has admitted to this offence and has also accepted the punishment given by Richie Richardson, who is the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, and that's why a formal hearing wasn't needed.

Jayaraman Madanagopal and Sam Nogajski, who were the infield umpires along with third and fourth umpires Rod Tucker and Rohan Pandit, who had put this charge at him.

The Level 1 breach consists of a minimum punishment of an official reprimand, and the maximum punishment is 50 percent of the match fee of a player, along with one to two demerit points.
