Simon Harmer spins his web and gets the better of Dhruv Jurel. Caught and bowled by Harmer as India lose an in-form batter here and nothing is going in their favour in the past hour. He started well in this session with a couple of boundaries but soon bites the dust. IND 153/5 in 48.3 overs

Shubman Gill faced only three balls before an injury forced him off. He managed a powerful slog sweep for four off Harmer over backward square leg but seemed to injure his neck in the follow-through, clutching it immediately. The physio came on quickly, and after a short assessment, the opener walked off, visibly in pain.

After a strong start, India have added just 63 runs in the second hour, losing 3 wickets. India added 101 runs for in the session for the loss of three wickets; 138 for 4, trailing by 21. Current score: 138/4. Can India regroup and push for a big total?

Shubman Gill's innings was cut short due to a neck spasm, forcing him to retire hurt. Rishabh Pant has stepped in to replace him.

KL Rahul and Washington Sundar are adopting a cautious approach, playing carefully against South Africa's disciplined bowling attack led by Maharaj and Jansen. The pair brought up 50 50-run partnership with a steady approach.

India put 50 runs on board with Washington Sundar's gentle push to mid-wicket, allowing the batters to sneak two runs. Sundar, now in double figures, and KL Rahul are steadily building India's innings, with the score currently 50.

KL Rahul takes strike for India, facing Marco Jansen's bowling on a hazy morning at Eden Gardens, as India resumes their innings on Day 2 of the Test match against South Africa.

"So KG (Kagiso Rabada) sustained the injury during the first training session on Tuesday, then he underwent a scan on Wednesday morning, and then underwent a fitness test this morning and was experiencing discomfort and then was ultimately ruled out of the game," the team media manager said on Rabada.

No rain is predicted to disrupt play, but the game was halted early on Friday due to poor light. Saturday is forecast to bring a hazy morning, with sunset at 4:53 PM.

South Africa batting coach Ashwell Prince on Friday played down the stump-mic chatter involving Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, and their comments directed at Proteas captain Temba Bavuma, during the opening day of the first Test at the Eden Gardens.

That'll be the end of the day here at the Eden Gardens. We have seen an early stumps due to bad light. India have reached 37/1 in their first innings with KL Rahul and Washington Sundar at the crease. They still trail by 122 runs.

 Jasprit Bumrah gets his fourth one as Simon Harmer fails to judge the bounce and gets outfoxed for just 5. South Africa continue to get hammered here as Bumrah has run riot here with some astonishing bowling throughout today. SA 159/9 in 54.3 overs

After giving away 34 runs in his first six overs, Mohammed Siraj kept grinding away and eventually broke through the lower middle order with a superb double strike in his 10th over, dismissing Kyle Verreynne and Marco Jansen within four deliveries.

Axar Patel also gets a wicket here as Corbin Bosch departs for 3. Nothing is going in the Proteas' way as India strike again at the stroke of tea. Sensational from the Indian bowlers here as South Africa lost five wickets in this session. Siraj came back strongly and claimed a couple, while Axar claimed a couple. SA 154/8 in 32 overs at Tea

A couple of tidy overs followed by Siraj's sensational over, where the Proteas lost two wickets. 150 up for the visitors but they need to put up a fight here and get past 200 here. SA 151/7 in 48 overs

 Mohammed SIraj joins the party and dismisses Kyle Verreynne for 16. The perseverance of Siraj finally paid off as he trapped the Proteas wicketkeeper in front of the wicket here. The Proteas are six down now and look down and out here. SA 146/6 in 44 .1 overs

 Ravindra Jadeja into the attack and now it's his chance to create some chaos in the middle for the Proteas batters. Maiden from Jadeja here to put pressure on the visitors who are already struggling miserably. SA 136/5 in 40 overs

Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav continue to cause trouble for the Proteas batters here. Bumrah continues to get the in-swingers right to the right-handers to make things difficult for them. Both Stubbs and Verreynne are finding it tough in this battle. SA 131/5 in 37 overs

Jasprit Bumrah gets the job done once again and South Africa are half down with Tony de Zorzi walking back towards the pavilion. Bumrah breaks the left-hander's defence with a ball which nipped back in and got plumb. SA 120/5 in 32.2 overs

And Kuldeep Yadav strikes again to get rid of Wiaan Mulder after Lunch break. The Proteas batter went for a reverse sweep but missed it completly to get plumb in front of wicket, while he also wasted a DRS to save himself. SA 114/4 in 29.5 overs

 India seemed to be under pressure after Shubman Gill suffered another setback at the toss, but Jasprit Bumrah turned the tide with a brilliant delivery from around the wicket. A 140 kmph length ball seamed back late, beating Ryan Rickelton’s tentative defence and smashing into his off stump, sending the Eden Gardens crowd of over 30,000 into a roar. Bumrah’s next over was even more threatening. A short-of-length delivery reared sharply on a pitch already showing uneven bounce, forcing Aiden Markram (31 off 48; 5x4, 1x6) to glove it straight to Dhruv Jurel, putting India firmly in control.

South Africa looked in control in the first 10 overs but then Bumrah ran riot to dismiss both the openers, while Kuldeep Yadav got rid of Temba Bavume to add further pressure on the Proteas.  There is definitely some awkward bounce on this surface as even Kuldeep Yadav stunned De Zorzi here with a ball that bounced out of nowhere. Five runs came off the last two overs here. SA 99/3 in 24 overs

Kuldeep Yadav's beautifully tossed-up delivery quickly ended South Africa captain Temba Bavuma's stay at the crease. SA 71/3 in 15.6 ov.

Jasprit Bumrah removed both the South African openers. A well-deployed 137.7kph with extra bounce from a short length did the magic for India as Bumrah removed well-set Aiden Markram. SA 62/2 in 12.1 ov.

Jasprit Bumrah gives India a big breakthrough as he removes well-set batter Ryan Rickelton with a gem delivery. From around the wicket at around 140 kph, the ball swings back in, leaving Rickelton stunned. SA 57/1

Aiden Markram whipped Axar Patel's first over as the batter smashed back-to-back two boundaries, gaining the tempo.

Markram finally gets his first run with a superb straight drive for four, and quickly follows it up with another boundary. SA 31/0

Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton have begun South Africa's innings with a careful approach, adopting a cautious approach as they face India's bowling attack.

Speaking at the time of toss, the South Africa captain said, "We will have a bat. The boys just came back from Pakistan. I was with the A team. From a preparation point of view, we've done as best as we can. It's not every day you get to play against 50,000-60,000 people in the stands. So, I'm looking forward to the challenge.
