India vs South Africa 2nd Test: India registered a dominant victory by seven wickets over South Africa in the second Test match at the Newlands in Cape Town on Thursday, January 4.

The visitors managed to level the two-match series 1-1 after getting thrashed in the first match in Centurion.

It took less than two days for the Rohit Sharma-led side to get the better of the hosts and clinch their first-ever Test victory at the venue.

Shreyas Iyer smashed a boundary down the ground to reach to the 79-run target with skipper Rohit standing at the other end.

India lost three wickets in the short-run chase with the match witnessing just 464 runs being scored across four innings.

The hosts resumed their innings on the second day at 62/3 before Jasprit Bumrah picked up momentum and completed his five-wicket haul.

However, Aiden Markram put up a remarkable fight and ended up scoring a memorable century on the surface where the other batters of both teams looked struggling.

Bumrah ended up with six wickets for 61 runs as South Africa were bowled out for 176 runs in the first session.

Earlier in the match, South Africa, after opting to bat first, were bowled out for just 55 runs in their first innings as Mohammed Siraj came out on fire and took six wickets for just 15 runs.

Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar picked up two wickets each as well.

India looked in the driving seat being 153/4 at once before a horrible collapse that saw them getting bowled out for 155 runs.

They lost their last six wickets without adding any runs to the scoreboard with Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada triggering a collapse to pick up three wickets each.

Virat Kohli, once again, was the top run-getter for his team as he scored 46 runs with Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma scoring 36 and 39 runs respectively.

India had their dream of winning their maiden Test series on South African soil, shattered after a defeat in the first match within three days.

However, they managed to level the series by putting up an improved performance and taking revenge with a positive result in just less than two days.

India's win in the second Test also saw the end of their all-format tour to South Africa which featured a 1-1 draw in the T20I series whereas India won the ODI series
