"Cricket is always surprising. When we saw the wicket in the morning, we didn't expect that it's going to be an action-packed day like how it was. It's always fun for a bowler that you are always in play, anything can happen anytime. If you bowled disciplined lines, there's a lot in the wicket. Interesting day of cricket. We have a lot of belief in our bowling line-up, but a lot of the bowlers are new. the discussion was about consistency and bowling in partnership. We have to create pressure, you don't necessarily need to bowl magic deliveries now and then. You just have to do the basic things tight again and again," Jasprit Bumrah said before the start of play on Thursday.

Shaun Pollock and Sunil Gavaskar: "You don't want these kind of conditions. If you bowl a full delivery, it's fine. If you bowl a short delivery, it's fine. But it's all happening from a quality length and there's nothing you can do as a batter when it hits that area and stands up steeply which we saw happen on countless occasions. Was it a 55 wicket? No. Certainly wasn't a 250-300 wicket. These types of pitches are dangerous for batters' physical health. Spinning pitches are dangerous to batters' reputation. It's not very easy for batters to play, little of the skill involved. It has to be an even covering of grass. Little bit of grass here, bare patches there. Thick bit of grass around the cracks, that's the problem. It's between 5 and a half and 7 and a half metres. I can't see this changing much."

“I realised what I missed in the last game and wanted to compensate and I executed my plans accordingly. I wanted to hit one area consistently and I did that and got reward for it. Wicket looks quite similar to Centurion,” Siraj said at the end of the day's play.

“We (him and Jasprit Bumrah) bowled in partnerships and bowled many maidens unlike last Test match. Bowling so many maidens did create pressure," he added.

The eventful day has finally come to an end as South Africa lose three wickets before stumps. After Elgar, de Zorzi, and Stubbs were sent to the dugout by Mukesh and Bumrah respectively. Interestingly, all chances were taken during the day by both teams. South Africa will be looking to post a 100+ target when they come out to bat tomorrow. That is that from Day 1. See you tomorrow.

Insane scenes at Newlands, Cape Town. No one saw this coming, and India will believe it was a good toss to lose on a tough wicket. Siraj was the star of the show with his six-wicket, nine overs long spell. Mukesh and Bumrah took two wickets each to add to the South African misery. India will come out to bat in the second session of the day. Stay tuned...

Out! This is extraordinary. Siraj has taken the South African batting order by storm. Every second ball seems to be a wicket delivery. Verreynne, the last recognised batter, edges one onto the slips, straight to Gill. South Africa is 7 down, and reaching 50 looks doubtful from here.

Rohit takes a gamble by extending Siraj's spell to one more over, and the star bowler hasn't let the skipper down. He claims two more wickets, sending shivers down the South African camp. What a spell he's having! Bedingham and Jansen head back to the dugout after edging one to the slip cordon and to the wicketkeeper, respectively.

After Jasprit Bumrah picked debutant Tristan Stubbs for three runs, Siraj returned in action to scalp his third wicket in the early play of the opening session. Indian pacers have put hosts under pressure after scalping wickets at regular intervals.

Siraj strikes again to dismiss South Africa captain Dean Elgar for four runs. The pacer found the inside edge of the opener's bat to the stumps. Siraj has sent both the opening batters back to the pavilion in his third over.

IND vs SA Live Score: 9/2 (6)

Aiden Makram falls cheaply yet again as Mohammed Siraj gets an edge of his bat with a brilliant outswinger pitched up. Tony de Zorzi is the new batter in.

Some swing on offer for Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Dean Elgar, unlike the first test, has not been decisive with his shot selection.

"Going to bat. Pitch looks interesting. We're in a great position. Can't win a two-match series if you don't win the first - we've crossed that hurdle. Scoreboard starts on nought. We all know that. Starting well is going to be key against this Indian side. Got a debutant in Tristan Stubbs coming in for Temba. Ngidi comes in for Coetzee who's also injured. And Maharaj comes in," Dean Elgar said at the toss.

"Would've batted first as well. Looks a good pitch. We understand the challenge of batting first on that pitch, but nevertheless, there will be enough in the pitch for the seamers, so hopefully we'll cash in on it. Important to forget what's happened in the past. We understand the importance of getting runs on the board, and getting 20 wickets. Didn't happen in the first game but we're upbeat about what we can achieve here. Two changes. Jadeja comes back for Ashwin. Shardul misses out, Mukesh Kumar replaces him," Rohit Sharma said at the toss.

India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma(c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul(w), Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Mukesh Kumar,

South Africa skipper Dean Elgar has won the toss and opted to bat first in the second and final Test of the series at Newlands in Cape Town.

"I only play the game to win. I don't care about stats. I care about wins. I care about series wins. Those are the greatest memories you can share with your team and everyone who has an influential role in the background. That's why I play cricket," says Dean Elgar ahead of his farewell Test.

India are expected to replace last match's debutant pacer Prasidh Krishna in the playing 11 with Mukesh Kumar as the former did not look solid in the opening match of the series in Centurion. Ravindra Jadeja is also likely to return in place of Ravichandran Ashwin.

South Africa probable 11: Dean Elgar (c), Aiden Markram, Tony de Zorzi, Keegan Petersen, David Bedingham, Tristan Stubbs, Kyle Verreynne (wk), Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Nandre Burger.
