Indian pacer Mohammed Shami is facing serious doubts about his participation in the Test series against South Africa. Shami is dealing with an ankle injury, and as of the latest update, he will not be traveling to South Africa with the rest of the players selected for the Tests.

As per a report in Cricbuzz,"The final batch of players, including captain Rohit Sharma, is scheduled to leave for Johannesburg on December 15, but Shami will not be among them. While the selectors have not named a replacement for Shami yet, there is speculation that one of the pacers already in South Africa for T20Is, ODIs, Tests, and A series might be drafted into the Test setup."

Shami had been a conditional pick for the Test series, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had clarified at the time of squad selection on November 30 that Shami was undergoing treatment. The statement from BCCI mentioned, "Mr. Mohd. Shami is currently undergoing medical treatment, and his availability is subject to fitness."

It is revealed that Shami had been dealing with ankle pain and had carried the World Cup workload despite the discomfort. The issue particularly surfaced during his landing on his right foot at the delivery point.

The first of the two Tests is scheduled to begin on Boxing Day, December 26, at Centurion, followed by the second Test at Newlands in Cape Town. Before the Tests, there is a three-day game for the Test squad from December 20. India will also be engaged in the third and final T20I against South Africa at the Wanderers, followed by a three-match ODI series on December 17, 19, and 21.
