India fielding coach T Dilip, who introduced the 'fielding medal' during the ODI World Cup, has come up with the idea of impact fielder of the series medal in the ongoing South Africa tour.

As India concluded the three-match T20I series on Thursday, Dilip named the first recipient of the medal in the dressing room following a thumping 106-run win over South Africa to level the series 1-1 in Johannesburg.

India pacer Mohammed Siraj won the inaugural medal after taking one catch and getting one run out in the series. Siraj outclassed the young duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rinku Singh to win the accolade.

After receiving the medal, Siraj said he had been waiting for his turn to get his hands on the medal since the ODI World Cup.

"I have been waiting to get my hands on this medal since the start of the World Cup and finally it has come my way. The lesson I have learned during this journey is that one should never give up," Siraj said.

After going 1-0 down in the series following the loss in the second T20I in Gqeberha, India displayed amazing teamwork to crush the hosts in the final and third T20I of the series. The first match of the series got washed out in Durban.

India captain Suryakumar Yadav smashed 56-ball 100 studded with eight sixes and seven fours to steer the side to 201/7 in 20 overs.

He also joined Rohit Sharma and Glenn Maxwell to become joint-highest to hit most centuries in T20Is. All three of them have equal four hundreds in the shortest format of the game.

Chasing the total, Kuldeep Yadav picked fifer while Ravindra Jadeja bagged two wickets to bundle out South Africa to 95 in 13.5 overs.

India and South Africa will next meet in the three-match ODI series. The first game of the series will be played in Johannesburg on Sunday, December 17.
