In a thrilling encounter at Paarl, Sanju Samson's mature and maiden ODI century played a crucial role in India's commanding 78-run win over South Africa in the third and final match. The victory secured the series 2-1, marking India's second triumph on South African soil since 2018.
Sanju Samson's measured innings of 108 runs off 114 balls, supported by Tilak Varma's patient 52 runs off 77 balls, propelled India to a competitive total of 296/8. The duo's impressive 116-run partnership for the fourth wicket showcased their resilience and ability to anchor the innings.
South Africa, in response, faced a challenging chase despite a solid start from Tony de Zorzi, who scored 81 runs off 87 balls. However, Indian left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh led the bowling attack with a commendable haul of four wickets for 30 runs. South Africa's innings concluded at 218 runs in 45.5 overs.
The Proteas' chase began brightly with De Zorzi and Reeza Hendricks adding 59 runs in just 8.2 overs. However, Arshdeep's crucial wicket of Hendricks signaled a turning point. Although De Zorzi displayed precision in footwork and gathered runs against spinners, his dismissal after a leg-before appeal from Arshdeep dealt a significant blow to South Africa's hopes.
Despite contributions from captain Aiden Markram (36) and Heinrich Klaasen (21), South Africa struggled to maintain the required run rate. Arshdeep's disciplined bowling, combined with a super acrobatic catch by Sai Sudharsan, ensured India's victory.
Earlier in the match, India faced some initial challenges as they wobbled at 101 for three. However, Samson and Varma's partnership, marked by pragmatism and occasional big shots, steered India to a position of strength. Samson's hundred and valuable contributions from Varma and Rinku Singh (38 off 27 balls) powered India to a competitive total.
The Proteas bowlers initially had India on the ropes, but debutant Rajat Patidar's impressive cameo and Samson's heroics guided India to a series victory in a hard-fought contest. The match showcased the resilience and skill of both teams, treating cricket fans to an enthralling series finale.
Brief Scores:

South Africa: 218 all out in 45.5 overs (Tony de Zorzi 81; Arshdeep Singh 4/30).
