India vs South Africa: South Africa's veteran batter Dean Elgar is set to retire from international cricket after the conclusion of the Test series against India.
The 36-year-old's decision was communicated by Cricket South Africa on Thursday (December 22) with the test matches in Centurion and Cape Town bringing down the curtains on a 12-year career.
After making his international debut in an ODI match in August 2012 and Test debut in November 2012, Elgar went on to represent the Proteas in 84 Test, scoring 5146 runs at an average of 37.02.

He also was appointed the captain of the Test side in between and went on to lead the Proteas 17 times in the longest form of the game.
"As they say, 'all good things come to an end', and the Indian home series will be my last, as I have made the decision to retire from our beautiful game. A game that has given me so much. The Cape Town Test will be my last. My favorite stadium in the world. A place I scored my first Test run against New Zealand and hopefully my last too," Elgar was quoted as saying in a CSA release.
"Playing the game of cricket has always been a dream of mine but having the opportunity to represent your country is the ultimate. Having had the privilege to do it for 12 years internationally is simply beyond my wildest dreams. It has been an incredible journey that I have been fortunate enough to have."
Elgar also has played eight ODI matches where he scored 104 runs with a best score of 42 runs as he couldn't prove himself in the white-ball cricket and became a one-format player since October 2018.
Elgar's decision means he will likely be unavailable for South Africa's two-Test series in New Zealand, where they will have to make several changes in the side because a few frontline players will be involved with the SA20 League.

After the conclusion of the T20I and ODI series, India and South Africa will now face off in a two-match Test series which begins on Tuesday, December 26 with the first Test scheduled to be played at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
The second match will be played at the Newlands in Cape Town from Wednesday, January 3, and will see the end of India's all-format tour to South Africa this season.
