IND vs SA T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8s: The one change the Indian team management made to the playing XI during their Super 8s clash against South Africa was replacing Axar Patel with Washington Sundar. They lost the match by 76 runs. Washington Sundar could score just 11 runs and had bowled two overs during that match. An ex-Indian cricketer made fun of Gautam Gambhir for picking Sundar and also described him as his one-stop solution for everything.

“Kailash Jeevan — there used to be a medicine by that name back in the day. If you had a headache, you'd apply it. If you had a stomachache, you'd take it. It was an all-in-one remedy. Gautam Gambhir seems to have one remedy for all problems. Everybody knows his name — Washington Sundar. If there's a batting issue, Washi is the answer. Suppose there's a bowling problem, same answer. He was promoted up the order. Rinku Singh came at No. 6, Hardik Pandya came at No. 7 today, and Rinku... " It's a bit too much,” Sanjay Manjrekar was quoted as saying on Sports Next.

After losing to the Aiden Markram-led side, the hosts are now in a do-or-die situation for their next two Super 8s matches against Zimbabwe and West Indies.

The team management might have to drop one of their three struggling batters and rethink their strategy of including too many left-handers in their top order, as has been suggested by Ryan Ten Doeschate and India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak.

The Aiden Markram-led side defeated India by 76 runs in their first Super 8s match in Ahmedabad last week. With two more matches remaining, the team management will have to analyse the performances of Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma.

At the same time, Rinku Singh, who was supposed to play as a finisher, had scored just 24 runs off 29 balls at a poor strike rate of 87.25.

"If the head coach and team management feel we need to do something different, we will do things differently. Definitely, a thought now comes — if we have to change, what do we change and how do we change?" Sitanshu Kotak told reporters in the post-match press conference.

"Now we have reached a point where we need to think if we need to do something different or stick with the same combination," he said.

But Ten Doeschate admitted that they were in a spot of bother, as they don't have any backup specialist in the team, and that out-of-form Sanju Samson might return to the playing XI.
