India vs Sri Lanka: Suryakumar Yadav experienced mixed fortunes as India announced the squad for a white-ball tour to Sri Lanka starting from July 28.
He was named the new T20I captain of the team but was dropped from the ODI squad with the selectors and new head coach Gautam Gambhir making their stance clear.
Notably, Suryakumar was part of the Indian team in the ODI World Cup 2023 where he had a disappointing outing.

Hence, the star batter was snubbed for a spot in the Indian team for a three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka.
Suryakumar, who played his part in India's title-winning campaign in the recently concluded T2- Word Cup 20924, is considered as one of the fine batters in the shortest format, but the same can't be said about his 50-over game.
In the 37 ODI matches he has played, the 33-year-old has just 773 runs to his name at an average of 25.77. His ability to play the patient game and gradually increase the pace of scoring runs has been doubted by many.
With India scheduled to play just six ODI matches before the ICC Champions Trophy next year, the selectors might opt to give other players a chance.
In another surprising decision, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar have emerged as tempting options in white-ball cricket. Hence, Ravindra Jadeja wasn't picked.
Riyan Parag has been selected for the ODI series against Sri Lanka and could get a run-in.
The Rajasthan Royals player isn't just a handy batter down the order but also has the ability to contribute with the ball with few overs.
In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Parag's consistent performance is the display of his skills as an all-rounder, which has seen him emerge as one of the key performers in the last couple of seasons.

However, he might not come out as the first-choice option, with more experienced stars like Axar and Sundar also part of the squad.
