IND vs WI 2nd T20I Highlights: Hosein-Joseph Take Windies To Victory By 2 Wickets

West Indies beat India by 2 wickets to take a 2-0 lead in the series.

The game has turned completely on its head. Windies have lost 4 quick wickets for just 12 runs. The equation is fairly simple here. WI need 24 off 24 balls with just 2 wickets left.

Jason Holder departs on a duck as he got stumped. Seems like he has injured himself too. Akeal Hosein is the new batter in. It is getting too close for comfort for Windies. WI need 25 off 26 balls.

West Indies batters are running away with the game at the moment. Pooran, being the enforcer-in-chief, has been phenomenal till now. WI need 36 off 42 balls.

Windies finish the powerplay on a high as Nicholas Pooran collects 18 runs off Ravi Bishnoi's over. India need a wicket soon and it better be of Pooran's.

India stutter their way to 152/7 after 20 overs. It was a brilliant effort from Windies bowlers to restrict them to this. Tilak Varma remained the top scorer for India.

Half century for Tilak Varma. What a knock from the youngster. It took him 39 balls on a slow pitch here at Guyana. He needs to finish the innings as well. 

Tilak Varma's maturity has been commendable to say the least. He is taking the occasional risk for a boundary but has remained unbeaten till now.

The run-rate is slightly less than 7 an over. Sanju Samson has made a confident start to the innings. Tilak Varma displaying his prowess as a middle order batter as well.

Make no mistake, this is a disastrous start for India. Suryakumar Yadav was running mindlessly on Ishan Kishan's call but there was no chance for him to make it. Tilak Varma walks in early.

This is a good start by Windies as Obed McCoy and Akeal Hosein have bowled tight lengths. Alzarri Joseph to bowl the third over.

Looks a pretty good surface and hopefully gets better as the day goes along. We didn't lose wickets in clusters in the last game which was good to see. We have grown as players and it is about continuing to do the right things and keep improving as a batting unit. We are going with the same team.

We will bat first, surface looks good. We will put good score on the board. I don't think we did much wrong in the last game, we spoke about it and the focus is to learn and keep going ahead. When we have these totals (chasing 9 or 10 an over), you gotta keep wickets in hand and that's what happened in the last game where we lost a couple of wickets during crunch moments. We have a forced change. Kuldeep got a hit on the hand yesterday in the nets, it is not serious and just a precautionary measure. Ravi Bishnoi comes in place of him.

India have won the toss and elected to bat first in the 2nd T20I.

For West Indies to build on their 1-0 series lead, they will need stronger performances from their batting lineup, providing adequate support to Nicholas Pooran and captain Rovman Powell, who were their top scorers in the previous match.

West Indies' victory in the first match was largely thanks to Jason Holder's excellent spell of 2-19 and Romario Shepherd's impressive last-over defense of 10 runs. They might consider adding another spinner to support Akeal Hosein in the upcoming game.

The pitches in Guyana have been on the slower side, favoring spinners and pacers with a variety of slower deliveries.

With the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup on the horizon, the ongoing series holds significant importance for players trying to secure a spot in the Indian team for the mega event.

One of India's weaknesses in the first match was the lack of lower-order hitters who could score boundaries. This issue needs to be addressed to improve the team's chances of closing out games effectively.

Varma's fearless approach and composed 39 runs off 22 balls provided hope for India's batting future.

In contrast, established players like Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Sanju Samson struggled to find their rhythm in the opening T20I.

The pitch in the previous match was challenging, but young left-handed debutant Tilak Varma showed great promise by hitting two impressive sixes in his first three balls in international cricket.

Shubman Gill has been going through a rough patch throughout the West Indies tour, having scored just 174 runs in seven innings across all formats. It will be interesting to see whether he makes way for someone like Yashasvi Jaiswal or the management decides to give him a lengthy rope.

“West Indies are a good T20I side and I just want to focus on my basics and do well. I can get a bit nervous at times as it is my first series but I want to give my hundred percent. I have spoken to Rahul sir in the practice session and I have been backed to play my natural game. In that process, if I get out, then it’s okay."

Tilak was the highest scorer for the Men in Blue in the first game having smashed two sixes off his first three balls in international cricket and went on to score 39 runs off just 22 balls including two fours and three sixes.

Mukesh Kumar became only the second Indian player after T Natarajan to make his debut across formats on the same tour.

He picked up two wickets in his maiden Test at Trinidad followed by four wickets in the three-match ODI series.

The pitch at the Providence Stadium is expected to be slow and sticky, giving the spinners extra assistance to dominate the proceedings.

The fast bowlers may get help initially with the new ball. A low-scoring contest can be expected considering the first-innings total at this venue being 122.

Rovman Powell regretted not picking another spinner in the first game. Roston Chase might get a look in if West Indies opt to add to their spin options.

The weather is expected to remain overcast for the second T20I between India and West Indies.

“I want to see Yashasvi Jaiswal. He should play as an opening batter. I want to see Jaiswal in place of Ishan Kishan. Ishan Kishan’s T20I form worries me. In the last 15 innings, he hasn’t even scored a 40, the strike rate is also too low. So, that’s a cause of concern, but he was in good form in ODIs. It’s a different format (T20I). He also had an ordinary IPL season.”

"We were right in the chase and quite comfortable there. We made some errors which cost us the game which is fine. A young team will make mistakes. We will grow together. Throughout the game, we were in control of the game which was the positive in this game. Good four games coming ahead. In T20 cricket, if you lose wickets, it becomes difficult to chase down any total, that's exactly what happened. A couple of hits can change the momentum towards you. When we lost a couple of wickets, that halted our chase."
