India vs West Indies 2nd Test: West Indies dominated the first session of the fourth day as the gritty knocks by John Campbell and Shai Hope took the visitors to 252/3 at lunch in the second Test against India at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Monday.
Despite Ravindra Jadeja snapping the wicket of Campbell, West Indies' resistance continued as the Windies cut the deficit to 18 runs after being followed on.
IND vs WI, 2nd Test: LIVE SCORE
At the time of Lunch, the West Indies' score read 252/3 with Hope (92) and Roston Chase (23*) standing unbeaten at the crease.
John Campbell (115 off 199 balls) and Shai Hope (92 batting) batted with ease during the first hour, unfazed by the Indian bowlers. On a pitch offering insignificant turn, Ravindra Jadeja (1/75 in 25 overs) floundered to reproduce his usual efficacy, while Jasprit Bumrah's steady spell lacked the potency to trouble the West Indies duo.
After slamming a maiden Test ton with a six over long-on off, Campbell fell prey to Jadeja's leg-before in the 63rd over.
Resuming their innings with an overnight total of 173/2, the Campbell-Hope duo had stitched up 177 runs for the third wicket and were looking good for a few more.
Skipper Roston Chase (23 batting) came out to bat and welcomed Washington Sundar with a lofted over long-on for a six as he and Hope added another 40 runs for the unbeaten fourth wicket stand going into lunch.
Hope switched his perspective from side-on to slightly open-chested. While he had to deny a few shots, it allowed him to protect doggedly. For Washington, he would drop his front foot outside the line of the off-stump and for Jadeja, he would haul it outside the leg-stump to smother the turn and nullify the chance of lbw.
