With the T20I series on the line, former India opener Wasim Jaffer believes that wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan should be rested to give a chance to in-form batter Yashasvi Jaiswal in the third T20I against West Indies in Guyana.
India are 2-0 down in the five-match T20I series after suffering narrow losses in the first two games in Trinidad and Guyana respectively.
Kishan has failed to carry forward his ODI form in the T20I format as he only scored six and 27 runs in the first and second T20Is respectively. In the last six innings, he only managed to cross the double-figure mark twice. In the three-match ODI series, the left-handed batter struck three consecutive half-centuries and bagged the Player of the Series award.

“We know that Ishan Kishan has struggled in the T20 internationals, so give him a break. He might come back stronger when he plays next,” Jaffer said on ESPNCricinfo.
Jaiswal made his India debut in the two-match Test series against West Indies and scored 171 in his maiden international innings. He also scored fifty in the second match and finished as the top-scorer in the series.
The veteran batter wants Jaiswal to cash in the opportunity and play his natural game in the T20Is after a prolific IPL season with Rajasthan Royals. In 14 IPL matches, Jaiswal scored 625 runs including one century and five fifties.
“I would pick Yashasvi Jaiswal without a doubt just because he brings that fearlessness. He plays spin well and his batting against fast bowling is exemplary,” Jaffer said.
“He’s right at the peak of his game, high on confidence, so why not throw him in the mix and see what you get? He’s got runs in Tests and he’s looking for an opportunity. You might get a breath of fresh air like you did with Tilak Varma, so why not?,” he added.
The third T20I between India and West Indies will be played in Providence Stadium in Guyana later at 8 PM IST later in the day.
