That's the end of the third day and an improved effort from the West Indies has kept them alive in the contest. They have reached 173/2 in their second innings with Campbell (87) and Hope (66) at the crease. They have stitched a 138-run stand for the third wicket. The visitors still trail by 97 runs.

West Indies begin their second innings! Openers Tagenarine Chanderpaul and John Campbell are back at the crease, resolved to fight through the follow-on.

West Indies show marked improvement from the previous Test, but ultimately fall short. They are trailing by 270 runs. India have enforced the follow-on.

India captain Shubman Gill brings the new ball into play and immediately hands over to Mohammed Siraj to complete the over. For the first time in 16 innings, the West Indies have made the opposition take the second new ball.

Jasprit Bumrah strikes back with the crucial wicket of Khary Pierre! The Indian pacer avenged his previous over's lapse, dismissing Pierre with a brilliant delivery.

Day 3, Session 1: West Indies stumble to 217/8 at Lunch, trailing India by 301 runs. Khary Pierre and Anderson Phillip dig in, both unbeaten on 19*. Kuldeep Yadav (3/54) and Mohammed Siraj (1/45) lead India's charge.

Khary Pierre and Anderson Phillip's partnership brought some respite for the West Indies. A boundary from Phillip off Ravindra Jadeja's over helped the team go past 200.

Mohammed Siraj struck again, dismissing Jomel Warrican with a blast of pace that left the batter stumped. The ball tore through the middle and leg stump, giving India a crucial breakthrough. 

Not a shot most batting coaches would suggest! Greaves goes for the reverse sweep but isn't close to executing it well. Misses it altogether, and that's as plumb as can be.

Kuldeep's third of the morning, fourth of the innings. And now drinks, WI 174/7.

Kuldeep strikes again! Imlach was batting well, but he was always a candidate for that given how often he was going on to the backfoot even against fuller deliveries. Can't get his bat around to that one, and he's so deep in his crease that it's as plumb as can be.

Two new batters at the crease, India making quick work of this now.

Great bowling! Pulls the length back just a touch but draws Hope onto his front foot. Hope is playing for the turn, but it doesn't bite as much. Evades his outside edge and knocks over off stump. Sensational stuff, and now 156/5.

 Broadcast compares the state of the pitch on both ends. One end is clean as a whistle, but the other is very worn down. Explains why Kuldeep and Bumrah are in a tandem to start off. The rough at a very full length though, easy enough for the batters to negotiate.

And play begins in Delhi! A bright day today, and Kuldeep with the first over.

With that in mind, Shubman Gill might be convinced to turn to his star seamers instead, just for a quick burst to unsettle the Windies with pace and bounce. Only 10 overs between them so far, though. 

The Delhi pitch has largely been one that has been good for batting thus far, but Indian tracks begin to wear down by Day 3 and really let the spin bowlers come into it. With the ball 43 overs old, batting should be pretty good in the first hour or two – but once the ball is around 60 overs old and the pitch is worn down even more, India will fancy their chances. The question really is if the Windies can even make it to that juncture, but for the sake of good cricket, you really do hope so.

With the brief being to go after the West Indies bowling and get quick runs on the board, Nitish Kumar Reddy was promoted to 5, needing time in the middle to hone his skills as well. He looked good despite a drop, but couldn't capitalise with a fifty, and nor could Dhruv Jurel after him, whose wicket brought the declaration to boot.

Shubman Gill is enjoying some year in Test cricket. Forged in the fire of opening and batting number three, he has taken to batting four down like a duck to water – and he has found a boost in captaincy as well. He looked untouchable as he scored his 5th century of 2025, as the runs just keep flowing for the Indian skipper. Ended the innings unbeaten as well before delcaring on 518/5.

He picked up the important wicket of Athanaze after toiling on Day 2, but given his spot in the team isn't all that solidified, Kuldeep Yadav will want to do all he can to ensure that Gautam Gambhir can't look away from him, particularly for home Test matches. He was just short of his best for large parts of his spell on Day 2, but a new day brings a new opportunity for the leggie to weave his magic.

The vastly experienced Shai Hope decided that the way to counter India was by playing attacking cricket – not unorthodox T20 style batting, but enough to unsettle the Indian bowlers. He worked his way to 31* in just 46 deliveries with five boundaries, and once he has his eye in, will be looking for more of the same

That's the end of the day, and India have the upper hand in the match at the moment. West Indies have reached 140/4 in their first innings with Shai Hope (31) and Tevin Imlach (14) at the crease, and Jadeja took three wickets for India. The visitors still trail by 378 runs.

Wicket! Another wicket for Jadeja, and this is a mini collapse for the West Indies towards the end of the day's play. It's the captain Roston Chase who departs for 0 after hitting that straight to Jadeja. The West Indies are four down now.

Wicket! A promising knock comes to an end as Athanaze hit that straight to Jadeja. This was a ball asking to be hit but he couldn't get the good elevation towards the leg side. First wicket for Kuldeep as the West Indies go three down.

Wicket! The partnership has been broken, and Jadeja takes his second of the match. Rahul made no mistake with the catch as Chanderpaul heads back to the pavilion for 34, and the visitors are two down now.

This partnership between Chanderpaul and Athanaze has shown a lot of promise so far as they rebuild for the West Indies after an early wicket. There was a bit of attacking intent from Chanderpaul in that over as 8 runs came off it.

Alick Athanaze turned the tables on Kuldeep Yadav, releasing a fierce response! Following a boundary in the previous over, Athanaze pummeled Kuldeep for 12 runs. 

India will head into their dressing room with extra confidence in the Tea break as Ravindra Jadeja scalped the wicket of John Campbell early in the innings. WI reach 26/1 at Tea and trail by 492 runs.

John Campbell's sweep shot off Ravindra Jadeja ricochets towards short leg, where Sai Sudharsan barely escapes a facial injury and, in a reflex action, somehow grabs the ball, taking a remarkable catch! WI 21/1 in 7.2 ov.

John Campbell and Tagenarine Chanderpaul have walked out. Both batters are cautious in their approach as they begin their chase of India’s massive first-innings total.

After a dominant batting display with the bat, India have declared their innings at 518/5, with Yashasvi Jaiswal top-scoring with 175 while Shubman Gill scored 129.

 The Indian skipper not too far from a big milestone here. How much longer do India keep going once he gets to his century?

These cut shots were a staple of his century last week, and he's still hitting them well. Finds the fence for four, and then another boundary driving straight down the ground. 450 up.

And we're back. Gill gunning for three figures. Jurel gunning to stake a claim in this team for the long run. 

109 runs in that session, which India once again dominated. No shocks at all, exactly what the expectation was. Something of a talking point with the run out, but Gill recovered and is now 75*. Eyeing up a century of his own? We will find out after this break.

Nitish Kumar Reddy's innings came to an end as he mistimed a boundary attempt, falling short and handing Warrican his third wicket. The youngster departed for 43. IND 416/4 in 108.3 ov.

More attacking cricket from Nitish Reddy, who is getting a move on. India past that 400 mark – are they looking to declare soon?

Attacking is the name of the game now. Reddy clears his front leg and deposits it over long on. Next ball, smashes it towards mid off, where a misfield helps him get 4 more.

Schoolboy errors. That's a dolly that has been shelled by Phillip. Reddy hits it weakly to mid-off, where Phillip never gets himself set despite the catch being down his throat. That's very weak fielding — an international cricketer should take that 10 times out of 10.

Scoring at more than run-a-all this morning, is the Indian captain, and suddenly into the 40s. He's timing them really well, and doing so nicely to put the Jaiswal run out away from his mind.

Better from the West Indies seamers to challenge the edges and put some doubts in the minds of Nitish and Gill. Both edging it and just falling short of slips in the last couple of overs. But the boundaries are still coming early on.

Early morning miscommunication and jitters and Yashasvi Jaiswal pays the price, run out anticlimactically! Pushes it to mid off, sets off for the run, but Gill says no! Jaiswal has to turn and go back, but he was never getting back to his crease. That was Jaiswal's call – and should Gill have sacrificed himself for the man batting on 175?

Almost time to get going in Delhi. Looks like a solid number of people in the crowd as they gear up for a day of watching two of their brightest and newest stars. Some history on the line for Yashasvi Jaiswal here, and they can sense it too, can this Delhi crowd. Action next.

We did get a full 90 overs yesterday, West Indies managing a good pace of play. The hope will be that we see more of that in world cricket. But the signs are a little negative for the Windies: the second new ball isn't particularly fresh, both batters are amongst the best in world cricket, and the pitch will only flatten out over the duration of this day. It has already been a batting beauty with not much movement in the pitch, but that might only be exacerbated.

It took him 20 overs to find them, but Warrican did produce the two wickets the Windies managed on Day 1. He was also the most economical of the West Indies bowlers. More than anything, this is something that indicates how WI just haven't come to the party, in terms of quality players who can make a difference against a team of this calibre.

The truly worrying signs for West Indies is that this could prove to be another long day yet. Two of the centurions from the Ahmedabad Test are still in India's back pocket, with Jurel and Jadeja clearly in good touch and yet to come in. Following them are Nitish Reddy and Washington Sundar. Already 90 overs deep, this could prove to be an exhausting period for the Windies. India looking at any sort of number for their first innings score, at this moment.

A solid batting effort from Team India yet again to prove their batting prowess. Just like Ahmedabad, it has not been a great batting pitch but KL Rahul (38), Sai Sudharsan (87) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (173) have found themselves in the runs again. India 318 for 2 after 90 overs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is continuing to dominate as he brings up 150 with 19 boundaries to his name. Shubman Gill, the captain, has been able to find his feet. 

End of a well-compiled knock by Sai Sudharsan. Jomel Warrican picks his 2nd wicket in the innings. Sudharsan will be disappointed as he missed out on well-deserved hundred (84). 

 Not the same blazing start to this session as the last. Both batters happy to nudge it around the ground and just rotate the strike calmly.

 Back for the evening session. Sai Sudharsan looking for his century, but Yashasvi Jaiswal trying to keep the attack going.

The action has started in the final session of the first day as Sudharsan and Jaiswal take crease with an aim to extend India's dominance in the first innings. Sudharsan will be looking to complete his maiden century as soon as possible.

India have reached 220/1 at the tea break. Yashasvi Jaiswal's century was the big headline of the second session. He remaine unbeaten on 111 with Sai Sudharsan at the other end on 71. These two have already added 162 runs for the second wicket.

Brilliant effort from Sudharsan as he reaches his second Test fifty and his first in India. He has looked solid in the middle so far and will be looking to capitalise on this start. Six runs came off that over.

Nothing seems to be working for the WI bowlers at the moment as Jaiswal and Sudharsan take India past the 150-run mark after the lunch break. While Jaiswal looks solid, Sudharsan is heading towards his maiden fifty. Three runs came off that over.

29 runs in just 4 overs after the break, the bulk of the scoring from Jaiswal. He is happy to take the attack here, and West Indies need to put a lid on it and find a way to generate pressure. Even their best bowler Seales under the pump.

Clear signal of intent! Jaiswal reaches 50 in no time after the lunch break. This one is a cover drive, and he reaches his half-century.

Some bite on the next ball – plays it back to Seales, who collects and tries to fire it back at the stumps. Hits Jaiswal on the pad. Hand goes up in apology immediately – no malintent.

Sudharsan calmly sees out the last over before lunch, cool as you like. Ensures no further damage, and he and Jaiswal go into the pavilion with India in a strong position after the first session.

Not too long before lunch but the West Indies are trying to get their spinners to keep the pressure on and force an error.

 You can see why Rahul was kind of quizzical after his dismissal. Warrican really put the revs on that one, and it turned big. Rahul tried playing with the angle and was comprehensively beaten. Imlach was quick to read the sharp turn, and has done well to get him stumped.

Wicket! India have lost their first wicket as Warrican strikes against the run of play. He removes Rahul for 38 as Imlach made no mistake with the stumping.

That's sublime from Rahul! Beautiful timing on consecutive deliveries. Punches it into the offside then flicks it off his toes for four more. Getting a move on now.

No risks, nice simple batting by this pair. Happy to see out the new ball bowlers. They know that Windies threat reduces if they can see out Seales.

Great timing. Jaiswal has tried to show plenty of restraint thus far this series before kicking off his scoring, but this was an excellent shot. Plays it late, perfectly finds the gap behind backward point. Risk-free, and much better to that sort of back-of-a-length ball than the expansive cut shot he got out trying to play in Ahmedabad.

Gameplan for the Windies here is to have the Indian batters play at it early, challenging the stumps and not allowing easy leaves. Good yorker from Phillips, which Rahul juuuust gets an outside edge on. Down to third for a double, India get going.

 Good start from Seales. Keeps it stump to stump and makes Jaiswal play at it, not giving any room. Maiden over.

Two changes for the Windies. Johann Layne out after getting his debut, and Brandon King also sits out. Anderson Phillip comes in, alongside Tevin Imlach, who skipper Roston Chase backs as a good player of spin.

Shubman Gill finally, finally, has the toss go his way as skipper! He wins the toss in Delhi and chooses to bat first. India go in unchanged, but the Windies have a pair of changes. Team news next.

At the toss for the first match, Shubman Gill stated very straightforwardly that his intention was to guide India to four wins out of four this Test season at home. It got off to the right comprehensive start, and will continue today — and these results will matter for momentum as they welcome the World Test Champions next month.

“But I think that's the challenge, to be able to play all the formats for India, and I want to play all the formats and succeed in all the formats for the country, and win ICC titles. So, if I want to do that, then this is the challenge I have to go through,” said Gill in his press conference, having been announced as India's next ODI captain upon the conclusion of the first Test match.

He has certainly hammered home his position as the understudy witht he gloves for Rishabh Pant even when India's star wicketkeeper returns, but Dhruv Jurel seems at home at the Test level. So much so that there are arguments for him to play in the lineup as a pure batter – but the question remains in what position that will be. The number three slot is up for grabs, as mentioned, and Jurel will know that the weight of runs lower down the order is the only way in which he can make an argument to take that role as a pure batter when future series roll around. He will want to continue performing at this level.
