In the aftermath of the second women's ODI against Australia, Captain Harmanpreet Kaur expressed disappointment over the Indian batters' lack of "match awareness" during the crucial middle overs. Despite appearing in control of the proceedings in their pursuit of 259, the Indian team faltered in the middle phase of the innings, ultimately falling short of victory by just three runs.
The hosts displayed promise in their chase, but a lapse in match awareness during the middle overs proved costly. The Indian batters failed to maintain momentum, leading to a narrow defeat against Australia. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur's remarks underline the significance of strategic decision-making and adaptability, especially in the critical stages of the game.
"Stopping them under 300 was a positive. We knew we could've chased it but didn't show enough awareness in the middle overs," Harmanpreet said at the post-match presentation.
India were also guilty of dropping as many as seven catches.
"Dropped catches are part of the game. Important to bounce back."
With the win, Australia have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
"We bowled really well. We knew we had to keep looking for wickets. Lots of positives. I know they took the game away. I'm proud of the team, the way we played. We needed a bit more awareness late in the chase.
"Richa played really well, Jemi (Jemimah Rodrigues ) helped her in the middle."
As the series unfolds, the Indian team will likely look to address these issues and make necessary adjustments to bounce back in the remaining 4 matches (1 ODI and 3 T20Is) of the series.
