The Asia Cup 2023 witnessed a mind-boggling final with India emerging victorious in just 129 balls. Fans were expecting a super-Sunday clash between the two Asian giants but were left disappointed after the early wrap-up.

Shoaib Akhtar, renowned for his insightful cricket analysis, extended his congratulations to India and shared his thoughts on their remarkable victory.

“After the first match (against Pakistan), India looked like the underdogs, but it wasn't to be. Hats off to them for doing a wonderful job,” Akhtar said.

Akhtar was all praise of Mohammed Siraj's exceptional bowling in the finals. He said Siraj's ability to swing the ball and focus on line and length played a crucial role in India's success. The Rawalpindi Express also appreciated Siraj’s heartfelt gesture of donating the ‘Man of the Match’ award money to the ground staff.

“Congratulations Siraj for winning the match for India and donating the prize money you received as a man of the match to the ground staff, they thoroughly deserved it,” Akhtar said.

Akhtar highlighted the pivotal role of Rohit Sharma's captaincy in India's resurgence. He said Rohit seemed "lost" for the last few years, but has regained his captaincy form and is now making astute decisions.

“Rohit Sharma is an improved captain now. He was lost 1-2 years ago, but now with team management, he is making good decisions. The inclusion of Kuldeep Yadav at the right time reflects his excellent man-management skills. India is moving ahead with a positive attitude,” the veteran added.

Shoaib Akhtar declared, "India have announced their arrival at the World Cup." He emphasised India has a well-rounded team, featuring a formidable pace and spin attack.

“India are going to the World Cup with high confidence. If they win the next series against Australia as well, that'll show India is a formidable team with a formidable bowling attack,” Akhtar said.

Akhtar said he didn't expect India to beat Sri Lanka this badly "in 5-10 overs". He added India are the favourites to win the World Cup, but he is not writing anyone off as all the subcontinent teams are equally dangerous. He also advised the Pakistan team to find a good combination before the World Cup to be in the knock-out phase of the tournament.
