WTC 2025 Final Scenario: India's hopes of qualifying for the World Test Championship final received a massive blow after the Men in Blue lost the second Test match in Adelaide on Sunday. Australia thrashed India by 10 wickets and with this, they have now slipped to the third position in the WTC points table and their point percentage has also gone down to 57.29.

The Rohit Sharma-led side are out of the top two and are lagging behind reigning champions Australia and South Africa.

The Men in Blue have now just three Test matches remaining in the ongoing WTC cycle. This was their fourth Test loss in the last few months and their chances of qualifying for the WTC summit clash for the third consecutive time have been dealt a huge blow after already playing in the 2021 and 2023 WTC finals.

After winning the second Test match in Adelaide, the Pat Cummins-led side has become the table topper of the WTC points table as their PCT went from 57.69 to 60.71. But South Africa, who are lying in the second position would displace Australia if they defeat Sri Lana during the second Test match.

What India needs to do now?

In order to reach the WTC final by not depending on the result of other matches, India can't lose any other match from the ongoing cycle. The most they afford is ensuring that just one of the remaining three matches ends in a tie. If they do win two matches and one ends in a draw, then they will have a PCT of 60.52.

If the Rohit Sharma-led side does win the next three Test matches, then their PCT will go to 64.05 and that will help them qualify for their consecutive WTC final.

What happens if India doesn't win 4-1?

If the Men in Blue doesn't win their last three Test matches, then they will have to depend on the result of other matches. Let's take a look at all the scenarios if India wins 3-2, 3-1, or if the ongoing five-match Test series ends at 2-2:

If India wins 3-2: In such a scenario, India will have 134 points and a PCT of 58.77. The Aussies won't be able to go past this PCT as they would be playing just a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. At the same time, South Africa can go past this PCT if they defeat Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the respective Test series. But these results will help India qualify for the WTC summit clash.

If India wins 3-1: In such situation, the Men in Blue will end with 138 points and a PCT of 60.52. Australia won't be able to breach this PCT once again. And India will thus qualify for the WTC final.

If India draw BGT 2-2: In such a scenario, India will have 126 points and a PCT of 57.01. The Pat Cummins-led side can go past this PCT if they defeat Sri Lanka 2-0 and then the Rohit Sharma-led side would be ousted.
