IND vs AUS 5th Test: Australia's star batter Usman Khawaja was the only player to have worn a black armband on Day 1 of the fifth Test match against India and thus grabbed the fans' attention, who was thinking as to why the star batter wore it. Khawaja chose to put up that heartwarming gesture to pay tribute to the wife of ex-South African batter Ashwell Prince, who is a close friend of Khawaja, as per a UK Daily Mail report.

Melissa Prince, who was 40 years old, passed away on Sunday as she was suffering from cancer.

Khawaja became close with Prince after playing together for Lancashire in England's County Championship.

Prince honored his wife on his official Instagram account.

"It was extremely difficult to see you endure as much pain as you did during the last few months of your life. But we choose to remember you in the way that we knew you. You were a gem, one of the rare types who touched people's hearts in a special way wherever you went," Prince wrote on his official Instagram account.

Khawaja came into bat on the first day of the fifth Test match in Sydney towards the fag end of the day, where the hosts skittled India out for just 185 runs.

His woeful form with the bat continued as he got out after scoring just two runs as KL Rahul, who was standing at the slips took a brilliant catch in Jasprit Bumrah's over. The Pat Cummins-led were 9/1 at stumps and were trailing by 176 runs.

Khawaja scored 143 runs after playing in nine innings in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.
