India vs England 1st Test: As players from India and England walked on to the ground to start the proceedings for Day 5 of the Headingley test, they were seen wearing black armbands followed by a minute's silence in the memory of former spinner Dilip Doshi before start of day five of the first Test here on Tuesday.

Doshi, a former India spinner who took 113 wickets in 33 Tests, died of a cardiac arrest in London on Monday. He was 77.

"Both teams are wearing black armbands today in memory of former Indian cricketer Dilip Doshi, who passed away on Monday. The teams also observed a minute's silence before the start of Day 5," read a social media post from BCCI.

Doshi carved out a niche for himself despite being in the shadows of Bishan Singh Bedi for the majority of his international career.

Doshi made his Test debut in 1979 after Bedi's retirement and played the last of his 33 games in 1983. In those matches, he took 114 wickets with six five-wicket hauls and was exceptional at home during the first three seasons, completing 100 scalps in just 28 Tests.

Indian Cricket Fraternity Paid Tributes To Doshi

Former India cricketers among the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Doshi, Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh offered condolences on Doshi's demise.

"I met Dilip bhai for the first time in the UK in 1990, and he bowled to me in the nets on that tour. He was really fond of me, and I reciprocated his feelings.

"A warm-hearted soul like Dilip bhai will be deeply missed. I will miss those cricketing conversations which we invariably had. May his soul rest in peace. Om Shanti," Tendulkar posted on X.

Former India captain Anil Kumble, who was among the first to pay his tribute to the late cricketer, too, expressed his sorrow: "Heartbreaking to hear about Dilip bhai's passing. May God give strength to his family and friends to bear this loss. Nayan, thinking of you buddy."

"RIP Dilip Doshi sir Condolences to family," Harbhajan wrote.
