England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and opted to bowl first against India in the fifth and final T20I of the series at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday.
India have already won the series as they lead by a 3-1 margin and the last match of the series will give them a chance to present opportunities to the players on the bench.
Inda's pacer Mohammed Shami came into the playing XI in place of Arshdeep Singh. The last time Mohammed Shami played at the Wankhede stadium, he picked up seven wickets in the World Cup 2023 semi-final.
India's series victory in Pune was somewhat eclipsed by a controversy sparked by England captain Jos Buttler. Buttler expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision to allow India, the reigning world champions, to bring in a fast bowler as a concussion substitute for a batting all-rounder. This move raised eyebrows and fueled a debate about the rules surrounding concussion substitutes in international cricket.
Talking at the time of toss, Buttler said, " We played some good cricket in patches. We should have executed it better though. Need to grab the special moments in the game. There's a good vibe in the team, it's a good venue and it's a great crowd. It's a good wicket, Mark Wood comes back in. Both teams are high-octane. We have four impact subs in our team."
India captain Suryakumar Yadav said, "We wanted to bat first, looks a good wicket. I am hoping there won't be much dew. It's going to be a full-packed stadium tonight. We want the boys taking that responsibility, that's what we demand and that's what they are doing. You will fail sometimes, especially when you play that high risk, high reward game. Shami comes back in for Arshdeep Singh."
