IND vs ENG 5th Test: Ex-South African pacer Dale Steyn has made a bold prediction for Mohammed Siraj's performance ahead of the fifth Test against England. India will lock horns with England in the fifth and final Test match, which will be held at the Oval from Thursday, July 31.
The upcoming match is quite important for both sides as the Shubman Gill-led side will try to win the match in order to level the series, whereas the host will try to win the match and the series. Before the upcoming match, Steyn has come out in support of Mohammed Siraj to take a five-for.
“Siraj to take a fifer in 5th Test,” Steyn had written on his official X account.
Siraj is the second joint highest wicket-getter in the ongoing series till now, as he has taken 14 wickets under his kitty after playing in four matches at a staggering average of 39.71 and a brilliant economy of 4. He has taken just one five-for, and that too in Birmingham.
He registered match-winning figures of 6/70 and had dismissed batters like Joe Root and Ben Stokes, and had helped the visitors skittle England out for 407 runs, and were leading by a huge margin of 180 runs. The Men in Blue won the match by 336 runs, and Siraj registered figures of 7/127.
Since there are uncertainties around Bumrah's inclusion in India's playing XI, the team would now be dependent on Siraj to spearhead their bowling attack. Questions were raised about Siraj's effectiveness in overseas conditions in the last few years, and the upcoming match will give him a perfect chance to prove his naysayers wrong.
And if Akash Deep too comes back in the playing XI, then it will only strengthen India's fast bowling lineup as he had taken a 10-fer in Birmingham. Due to this, Siraj too will receive assistance and will help the team to bounce back in this series against a depleted team, as they will be without the services of their regular skipper, Ben Stokes.
