IND vs ENG 1st Test: Ex-India cricketer Ravi Shastri had become an umpire for a while doing commentary on the second day of the series opener as he was seen raising his finger hilariously after an LBW appeal was made for Joe Root but the DRS proved them wrong. The incident occurred during the third session when things got intense.
Mohammed Siraj had hit Root on the pads and the on-field umpire Paul Reiffel too gave the decision of out. The Indian team then started celebrating aggressively, as India captain Shubman Gill was also seen running towards Siraj, which reminded fans of Virat Kohli's celebration.
But their celebrations had to be cut short as Root then took a DRS review and the replay showed that the ball had missed the leg stump. The on-field decision was changed and Root thus survived a nervy dismissal.
When the replay was shown, the cameramen turned towards the commentary box, where Ravi Shastri was seen imitating the on-field umpire action of raising his finger. Everyone in the commentary box started laughing as Ian Ward said, "Umpire Ravi Shastri."
Reacting to the comment, Shastri said, "Yes, and it was Joe Root. You can see how much that wicket meant to India. Even my hand went up in the commentary box. He's made India pay over the years. Unfortunately, it was missing."

And with a smile on his face, he added, "Just shows how much I've watched Joe Root bat as coach of India. He keeps getting hundreds, so even my finger went up-and I'm sitting behind the umpire!"
But ultimately Root's knock came to an end as he edged another brilliant delivery in Jasprit Bumrah's over and Harry Brook too survived a nervy dismissal as he mistimed a shot and the ball went up in the air.
Till stumps, the hosts were 209/3 and were trailing by 262 runs. Ollie Pope scored an unbeaten knock of 100 runs whereas Harry Brook has yet to score a run. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick among the Indian bowlers as he took all three wickets.
Initially, the Shubman Gill-led side posted a mammoth target of 471 runs, on the back of a brilliant hundred by Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant. Pant, especially showed his batting prowess whereas Bumrah's late surge helped them to bounce back into the match.
The hosts too fought back brilliantly as Pope's hundred steadied their innings whereas Brook survived a nervous dismissal in Bumrah's over as he mistimed a pull shotr and Siraj took a stunning catch but it turned out to be a no-ball during the last over.
