IND vs ENG 3rd Test: Ex-England cricketer Michael Vaughan has reckoned that Karun Nair had played brilliantly as he had scored a gritty knock of 40 runs off 62 balls during the second innings at Lord's but these knocks won't help him pay his mortgage and that he won't be included in the playing XI of the fourth Test match and that he should now work on converting his starts. After coming into bat at No.3 position since the Men in Blue made some bold changes after losing the series opener by seven wickets, Nair was able to get stats during all his innings.
Nair came into bat during the second over when Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed after scoring 13 runs off eight balls and had faced Jofra Archer during the first over.
“I thought he (Nair) played nicely, but we all know that in cricket, a 30 or a 40 does not pay your mortgage. It does not pay everything off; you need to get that 40 into an 80, the 80s into 150s, the 150s into double centuries," Vaughan was quoted as saying to Cricbuzz.
“He will be disappointed because he played well and it was a great catch. I would hope that India sticks by him, at least another couple of games, just to give him a run at No.3," he concluded.
Nair batted at a brilliant strike rate during the second innings kept India's scoreboard ticking and also took the English bowlers to the cleaners.
Till stumps, the Shubman Gill-led side was 145/3 as the in-form skipper Shubman Gill got out after scoring just 16 runs whereas Jaiswal and Nair were the other batters to be dismissed and it was the first time that Nair had scored more than 40 runs during the ongoing series.
A jam-packed Lord's cricket ground saw India's star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and Archer at their absolute especially when Archer played in this format for the first time after 2021.
After Bumrah's brilliance during the first innings, it was Archer, who made a brilliant comeback to this format as he dismissed Jaiswal during his first over and thus grabbed the attention of everyone present at the venue.
