IND vs ENG 2nd Test: Marcus Trescothic, who is the batting coach of the England cricket team reckoned that he was frustrated after watching Shubman Gill bat during the second Test match at Edgbaston, as the Indian skipper scored 269 runs during the first innings and then scored 161 runs during the second innings and that had put the visitors in commanding position before the fifth and the last day. Gill was seen struggling during the first innings but he found his rhythm as he took the English bowlers to the cleaners.

He had scored 430 runs during this match and left the English bowlers clueless and Trescothic admitted the same on BBC's Test match special.

“Well, I'm fed up with watching him bat. As much as I like watching batters get runs, he's played brilliantly well – superbly well – in both games. But in particular, this game here. Getting sort of 250 and then, you know, another 150 – now that's pretty special. That volume of runs is something not many people manage,” Trescothic was quoted as saying on a BBC Test match special.

“You've got to admire his dedication, his concentration, his fitness, and his skill level to come out and do it. So it’s got to be well played,” he said.

In his knock, Gill had smashed 43 fours and 11 sixes during both innings and took the English bowlers to the cleaners. His second innings knock helped the Men in Blue get a huge lead towards the fag end of the day on the fourth day and had piled pressure on the Ben Stokes-led side.

Gill did get huge help from batters like KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja as all of them smashed fifties each and solidified their position in the game. Their significant contribution helped the team post a mammoth target and one that was beyond England's reach.

Even though they were in the driver's position, there were a lot of people who slammed India's timing of declaring their innings. Since there was a threat of rain looming large on the fifth day, there were a few who reckoned that with India declaring their innings too long, might have risked forcing the match for a draw, especially when they have dominated it for the most part.

Nevertheless, Shubman Gill's batting prowess would be considered one of the best batting performances in the last few years.
